Dvd player is not palying dvd movies but it is paying vcd
I have sony picot pq1 dvd payer from almost 3 yeras now, from last week it is not paying any dvd movie, but it paying vcd, what could be the problem and how to fix them? your early reply is highly apriciated.

After variety of different tests and findings I have resolved this issue. It appears that the DVD burner was not in good working order and the DVD player was not at fault. Thanks you to all who answered and responded to my problem. Many thanks.
Many DVD players are preset to one region and if you use a DVD destined for any other region, the player will refuse to play. Some players have the option to change this to universal mode. Check your player's manual if yours has this facility.
Yes. You can play VCD movies and and Audio CDs on most players.
Its not supposed to play Dix AVI movie files. For a DVD player to play anything other than a DVD movie the manufacturer must pay royalties to who ever owns the patent, for example they would have to pay Philips say $1 for every DVD player made that plays VCD's, that may not sound a lot but, make 100,000 dvd players and they would have to pay Philips $100,000. The technology has to be put into the device for it to work. Hope that helps.
