Incompatible Disc in Sharp BD-HP21X Blu-Ray Disc Player

I have a Sharp BD-HP21X Blu-ray Disc player that is independently connected to a Sharp Aquos 42D85X tv via a HDMI cable. The player plays dvds fine, as well as jpeg cds, but will not play blu-ray discs. The message "Incompatible Disc" appears when I load a disc. I've tried 4 different blu-ray discs, all brand new, all spotless. I've checked the playback settings, entered a pin code and set to Australia and No Limit for playback but no success. I reset to factory settings and tried again, no luck again. One disc played for a couple of minutes then froze. All discs including the one that froze have the Incompatible message. Please help.

I had the exact same problem as you did... I bought the Sharp Aquos 42D85X which came with Sharp BD-HP21X Blu-ray Disc player. could not get brand new blu-ray movies to play and i found it froze everytime after 10 secs. I phoned sharp who basically were no help watsoever! I then went and returned my blu-ray movies back to the store thinking it was a problem with the discs.. The people there were extremely nice and since they had a display model of the BD-HP21X instore they offered to test the movie on it to veroify whether it was the blu-ray player was the problem or not. Turns out its a fault with all of the BD-HP21X models. So we then ended up returning it back to the store we bought it and exchanged it with the older model (BD-HP20X). I now have no problems playing blu-ray movies. Although another suggestion is to perhaps download the lastest firmware update & see if that resolves your issues.

Its highly likely a cable issue. You know which cable connection is wrong if are using component in and out. But change to a new connection cable whatever it is and I think it will be solved

IS THERE A WAY TO HOOK ETHERNET TO A SHARP BR MODEL BD-HP20U

You can connect it by any way to your BDP. There are cables to connect in between. HDMI, S-Video & AV. After connecting these cables with your TV, select the appropriate selection to video by TV.

Can a sharp Aquos bd player be hooked up to a cable box using the HDMI cable

Can I ask why?
If it's only a BD player only, there is no reason for connecting it to your cable box - with HDMI or any other type of cable. It simply needs to be connected directly to your TV for playback.
If it's a Blu-ray (or DVD) recorder, it can only be connected to the cable box with HDMI if the cable box has a spare HDMI OUT port and the BD recorder has an HDMI IN port.
If you want to connect the BD player to the cable box for playback on your TV via the cable box, then the cable box would need an HDMI IN port, which it's unlikely to have.
Hope this helps. If you need further assistance, please provide model numbers of your equipment and explain why you need to connect the BD player to your cable box.
Regards, BElectric

Hi...I also have a Sharp BD-HP24U. My problem is When I load the new expendables disc, it only seems to load the scull and wings logo of the movie about 3/4 of the way across from left to right then stops....

I had this exact same problem with the Expendables. I have a Sharp BD-HP22U. I found this fix on another site regarding another movie. I thought it was a long shot, but gave it a try anyway....and it worked. Here's what to do: Turn off whichever device (TV or Receiver) your HDMI cable is going into - turn on Blu-Ray player, load Blu-Ray disc and then turn on the other device. Hope this works for you.

Hope this helps folks. :)

I put a regular dvd into my blu ray player but it will not play. the player just says load and when I push the play button nothing happens. I'm using an hdmi cable and my 42 i.nch widesreen sharp tv is set...

Assuming it will play regular DVD's I'd suggest you connect it by scart also and set your TV input to scart.

I don't think DVD's carry High Def. data, that being the case, your player may auto route the data via scart.

BD-HP21U problems playing discs

You have inadvertently downloaded the US (or other region) version of the firmware. Unfortunately if you try and download the UK version the HP21 just tells you you have already installed it. I was told mine the only way to reset it is for it to be sent to Sharp or you can wait for a new firmware update.

Sharp Aquos 46" HDMI problem

I have a similar problem. The Sharp TV aquos appears to be shutting down my blue ray player and dvd recorder when connected via HDMI. They work fine and never close down when I connect them via the rca cables either single video connection or a composite 3 cable rca lead. I have 3 HDMI inputs on the tv and the problem occurs on all 3. Any suggestions?

Sharp Blu-Ray model BD-HP20X locked to region 4 how to unlock ?

Well I Checked my data resources and saw that there are no hacks or tricks for Sharp yet... the only thing you can try doing now is to ask your Dealership if they can unlock the regions for you. I've searched everywhere but couldn't find anything for newer models like HDDVD or Blu-Ray players.

Sorry T_T But let's hope someone might be able to help as well..
