Media center does not play cds or dvds please help

You have to check your CD/DVD Rom to make sure the device is not faulty.

Open your Windows Explorer, insert any CD/DVD to see whether your CD/DVD is able to read the the disk.

If it cannot read the disk, most probably the CD/DVD rom is faulty and you have to replace it.

Wanting to copy winxp from my pc to another pc that does not have

The windows xp operating system cannot be copy from one computer to another, but if you have the windows xp cd you can install on the other computer. It will work just as the original installation but if you download and install updates from the microsoft website your computer can be infected with a software call {WGA} Windows Genuine Advantage.
The WGA can make you computer background become black and will popup often telling you that your windows xp is counterfeit,it can be very inconvenient so if you install the windows xp from the CD which was install in another computer you need to make sure you don't update anything. If my answer it useful to the situation please vote for me Tank you

How do i activate windows xp home without buying it .because i did it last time but had to reinstall windows

windows xp not need any activations on installing ...only need the right cd key on the copy ....but ..when you trying to update will find if the copy is genuine or pirated ..and make a few ...either stop the automatic updates...and go along with them ...or when the genuine advantage program kicks in and block a few features with that desktop reminder ...that you are a victim of piracy ....just go to system 32 for a file named WgaLogon.dll and rename it into something like WgaLogton.dll ....just change a character and it will forget the world it is in ...

I keep getting a message from I Tunes that it is on a locked disc and I don't have write permissions. I used the Tweek UI but can't get it to open still.

Are you trying to use iTunes to download to an Apple iPod, or to write to a CD/DVD disk? If the latter, try a different "blank" CD/DVD disc.

Error message when starting up: <Windowsroot>\system 32\hal.dll. Please reinstall a copy of the above file.

This issue happens if boot files are corrupted .. you need to have the Operating System Cd to resolve this problem . Considering you have windows xp you need to have the installation cd for windows xp .
you need to use bootcfg command to resolve the issue.

Go to bios and change the boot sequence to boot from the cd, if you are not able to boot from the cd. and then boot using windows xp cd .

Then push R to go to recovery console and use the below command

Boot to Recovery Console and rebuild the BOOT.INI file with the BOOTCFG /REBUILD

you will need a copy of the windows installation cd or the recovery media that comes with the computer.

Ones you have that you have to reinstall windows or restore from the recovery media to get your computer working normally again.

You can also take the computer to a local professional who can install it for you if you don't have the disc.

Let me know if you need anything else.
