Question about Toshiba Satellite M205-S4806 Notebook

1 Answer

Computer shuts down on its own

I own a Toshiba Satellite M205 model laptop computer, but this problem is not only exclusive to it, but my older model Toshiba laptop. At random times, my computer will simply power down completely without warning, it just shuts off. A lot of times, it will take two or three tries to get it to turn on and keep running (usually I get to the log-in screen or just a bit after before I shuts down again if it does). I have no idea what's going on, but I'm getting so frustrated. This is my second laptop! What could possibly be the problem and what can I do to solve it?

Usually what gives these types of sighns is that the laptop is overheating.
It hasn't cooled down yet and that's why it will continue to reboot a couple of times it's a safety catch so you don't fry anything within the laptop.
A couple things you can do put it down on a hard surface when in use do not cover the bottom vents that let's the computer breath and cool down.
Also they sell in many stores you will see laptop coolers.
They are flat and light which you put your laptop on there's fans on the bottom that blow up at the bottom of the laptop to keep it cool
I use one it let's the laptops life last longer plus it don't burn the legs or heat up the legs while on the laptop.

Toshiba Satellite Laptop M205-S4805 gets overheated and shuts down

Hi
This can happen when the air vents are blocked by dust or similar particles, it can also occur if the fan is not running to the full capacity. The best you can do is to seek an expert advice as trying to open the casing without proper knowledge has a risk of damaging the system.
Regards.

My Toshiba Satellite M205-S7452 laptop keeps automatically shutting down. I'm guessing it's caused by overheating.

Hi,

Most likely this is an overheating situation.
If your CPU is running at over 60 degrees you might be at risk of burning it out. Some systems shut down automatically when the temperature reaches an unsafe level.

If you determine that overheating is not the problem, the most likely suspect is bad memory. The best way to find the culprit is to pop open the system unit, remove (or replace) one RAM stick and see if the problem is solved. Run your system for a while and if the problem goes away, you win!
If not.lather, rinse and repeat for each RAM stick until you find the one that's misbehaving.
