Question about Canon ZR90 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

3 Answers

ZR90-Shutter off Purchased camera in 2004. Last December it started showing a black screen in the middle of a shooting and not responding. Under "camera settings" menu the "shutter" is lit as "not working." The shutter opens, allowing the image to come in, at the will of the camera. We are wondering if this can be fixed or if we should just purchase another camera. Who can we take the camera to for them to take an honest look?

Re: ZR90-Shutter off

As the user said above several models had been affected by loose wires connecting the ccd. My zr70 was affected by this, I contacted Canon and an RMA was set up. Repair time was about 10 days and was delivered back working. Contact Canon, I had no problem with this even thought I purchased my Camera in 2004.

My canon zr90 camcorder screen is black , i can not recod any thing

This is usually caused by a defective CCD image sensor and can be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired qualified service technician.

I have a JVC digital video camera (Mini DV). the screen is all black, it can still record but only a black screen. it recoreds sound only. the screen tells me to take off the ens cap when it is already....

I want you to do this to confirm which part has a problem. Look at your camera lens directly face to face and observe those tiny shutter inside while switching on your camera. You must see the movement of those tiny shutter and even hear some clicking, if so, CCD replacement is needed. Sometimes those shutter stacked up and shows the same symptoms. Hope it helps

Hello, my canon zr90's screen is black, if i record the audio records but it still records a black screen as if the lens cover was on.

Hi - Canon has an advisory on this and may still fix that particular problem well past the warranty expiration date. You should check their website.

No pic but sound

You may have a problem with a stuck shutter lens. Try putting the shutter on auto shutter. Also try tapping around the lens with a solid object to loosen the shutter to make it operate again. Try shooting bright objects and see if will respond again. Try shaking the camera by the lens carefully. Make sure you do not damage your camera with any of these fixes. If this does not work you may have to have a service center look at the shutter mechanism to free it. It may also be another problem with the camera. The pick-up circuits may have lost power and are not working correctly. This type of problem will require service from a service center. I hope this information helps you with your problem.

Red flashing icon

Mine had that too. It means the backup battery is low. It's located in a panel behind the LCD screen. You can find details on page 19 of the users manual. If you don't have your manual, you can download it for free from canon's website.

Dubbing through AV jack, with or without S Video cable, from DVD or VHS players to Camera

Jeffrey, Please check in the user menu to see if the camera is in "cinema" mode. This can also be referred to as 16:9 or 4:3 aspect ratio, you would want to select the 4:3 option. If 16:9 is selected, the 1394 and composite outputs will be affected. Hope this helps my friend. Joe Weibel
