Connecting the parking brake wire to ground does make the dvd display BUT there is NO AUDIO.  I have tried everything that has been suggested on various blogs but none work.  This is truly a software issue and poor design.  The same is true of connecting a memory card to the USB port. The system displays all the MP3's on the sd card and even plays them, but the AUDIO is muted.

Just connect the purple safety wire to the car's ground location or to the other ground wires.

With my BMW I had to connect both the solid blue (pwr ant) wire and the blue with white stripe (p conn) to the solid blue wire from the factory harness. It isn't obvious that either of these are needed as the KVT-512 has it's own power supply but the way most factory power amps are installed the power from the KVT-512 is not used and the car manufacturers power amp needs to be turned on. If you are listening to the radio the pwr ant wire will turn on the power amp, this didn't seem obvious because the BMW doesn't have a power antenna. And when you are using the DVD player or the iPod connection you need the P Conn wire to turn on the car power amp as the ant pwr is disabled because you are no longer using the radio and Kenwood assumes you will not need the antenna so no power to this lead. Solder all three wires together and you should have sound all the time.

I just spliced the parking wire into the positive wire on my cigarette lighter. This provides the voltage tricking the player into thinking that the brake is on. It takes almost no voltage to trick it. Even just licking your fingers and touching the bare part of the wire gives it enough voltage to bypass.

Cant play dvd says parking brake on screen

you can not play dvd's when the car is not in park with the e brake on. I"m assuming it was factory installed or by a dealership??? they hook a line from it to your brake sensor. it's illegal to watch movies while you're driving. so long as theyre behind your seat and out of your view theyre legal, otherwise they hook it to your brakes.

When I try to play a movie, I only see the warning sign on the screen. I can hear the movie playing, but the warning will not go away. This is even when the vehicle is in park. Any ideas what may be wrong?

Bypass Code
1. Go into Am/Fm mode
2. Hit "setup" on the remote control
3. Enter 543210 on the remote, listening for the beep for each number entered
4. A new menu will appear. Touch the button that has the hammer/screwdriver on it in the upper left-hand part of the screen
5. Select Brake bypass to "ON" and hit the "X" near the bottom of the screen

Putting kenwood kvt 617 dvd in rear of surburan how can i bypass parking brake so movies can play while driving

On bypasses you can either hook the parking brake wire straight to ground, if that does not work you can install a toggle switch between the parking brake wire and ground so you can mimic the parking brake on off.

Can I watch movies while moving?

There is a wire that goes to the park brake switch. That will need to be permanently grounded to bypass the security feature, but if it's a factory player, it may be integrated into the car's electrical system and may give you a park brake light on the dash if you do this. Prolly best to remove the wire from the park brake switch, and move it to a switch you create on the dask or something, that way you can turn it onn and off at will.

How do i bypass the parking brake switch in order for my video to play

run a jumper to GROUND from that lead. it must remain shorted all the time you intend on watching the dvd player. With that said, I have one in my car that is hooked up that way and I put mine on a toggle switch so that, in the event I get pulled over I can hit the switch and it won't work unless I pull the brake. If you get caught wacthing a movie while moving, there is a fine associated with it! just letting you know. but its very kool to have it on long trips.

To bypass the parking brake you should connect the parking brake wire from the unit to ground. It is better to do it via a switch because is illegal to watch video while you're driving. :)
