tried the following, reseating the processor, ram and two different video cards one an apg and other pci all parts tested in this motherboard came from working systems.  I have the same board in another system with all the same settings so I know it is setup correctly.  I think it is a bad motherboard any one out there agree?

I tried the ram for the good machine and went a step further, tried the processor also with the same result.  The machine boots up, i.e., the fans come on but there is no video at all and the machine will not even announce that there is no processor in the motherboard that is why I think it is bad.  This board will tell you if the ram or processor are installed incorrectly.  With this board I don't even get a beep, and I did try another speaker also to be sure on this.

    try resetting the cmos jumper
it is jp5 jumper on the mobo

don't give up yet this happened to me once and it was the processor.I
wouldn't think that it was the mobo because its booting up,but it could be try pulling the cpu out of the other pc . if that don't work try the ram from the other system. Its most likely to be the ram.

try reseating the ram.and make sure the mobo isn't grounding out. also reseat the video card.

The processor socket is no good, have a look at the capacitors around the processor socket or even the under side of the motherboard where the processor socket is. Look for signs if temperature change, burning or discolouration. This type of board ( socket A ) is now a very old board and is likely to be passed it's useful life.

Beep codes

Hello here is the manual:

http://www.motherboards.org/files/manuals/107/mk7vtapro11.pdf

Adobe reader is needed to read the content.

Here is a list of beeb codes:

http://www.computerhope.com/beep.htm

I would start to renew the power supply, and see if that helps.

Look also here:

http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000607.htm

Look also for bad caps on the mainboard:

If they are leaking like this, scrap the mainboard.
It does not pay, to let it be repaired.

Good luck

What are the functions of its parts?

1) Motherboard Diagram, (Proper computer speak for motherboard is Mainboard. I just use Mobo.
MOtherBOard)

2) Soyo SY-KT400 Dragon Ultra - motherboard diagram,

http://techreport.com/articles.x/4139

CPU = Central Processing Unit. Another term is Microprocessor, or simply Processor for short.
The 'Brain' of the computer.

The Processor sits in a processor socket.
The processor socket for the Soyo SY-KT400 is a Socket A. Also known as Socket 462.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socket_462

The motherboard chipset is the Northbridge chip, and Southbridge chip.

The motherboard chipset for the Soyo SY-KT400 is the VIA KT400 - Northbridge chip, and the VIA VT8235 - Southbridge chip.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_VIA_chipsets#Slot_A_and_Socket_A

The Northbridge chip handles the Faster capabilities of the computer.

The Northbridge chip determines what Processors can be supported, what Ram Memory can be supported, and High-Speed graphics.

High-Speed graphics being AGP and PCI Express, not a graphics card installed in a PCI slot, nor Integrated Graphics.

The Processor communicates with the Northbridge chip through the Front Side Bus. (FSB)
Think of the FSB as an 'Information Highway'.

The Northbridge chip communicates TO the Southbridge chip through the Internal Bus.

The Southbridge chip handles the Slower capabilities of the computer.

The Southbridge chip handles IDE, SATA, USB, Ethernet, Integrated Graphics, and the PCI bus.
(As in a graphics card installed in a PCI expansion slot, for one example)

Also handles information from the Super I/O chipset.
The Soyo SY-KT400 - Super I/O chipset is a VIA VT1211

There are 5 PCI slots. All connected to the PCI bus, which is connected to the Super I/O chipset.

Click on this link,

Scroll down a little bit to the photo of the Soyo SY-KT400 motherboard.

A) At the top middle is the Processor socket. White in color, rectangular in shape, square hole in the middle, and socket holes on it.

To the immediate left of the Processor socket are 8 Electrolytic Capacitors in a row.
These capacitors are Radial Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors. (Used all over the motherboard)

These particular 8 are part of the motherboard voltage regulator circuit.
Specifically, voltage regulation for the Processor.

B) To the right of the Processor socket are three long Black Ram Memory slots. (Proper computer speak for Slot, is Bank. 3 Ram Memory Banks)

C) The Blue and the White connectors to the right of the Ram Memory slots are IDE connectors.
One for the Harddrive, the other one for the optical drive/s.

D) Underneath the Processor is the Northbridge chip. There is a clear fan sitting on it.

E) The large square Black chip with VIA on it, below the Ram Memory slots, and to the right of the purple PCI slots, is the Southbridge chip.

F) The 5 purple long slots are PCI expansion slots.

G) To the right of the bottom purple PCI slot is the CMOS battery.

H) Above the purple PCI slots is a brown AGP slot.
Uses AGP 8X graphics cards

K8n-dl mb does not post. only action that comes is beep/beep off/beep/and on and on. This is with only one processor in and no ram. put pciexpress video card in and screen is blank. put second processor in...

The beep beep code is an audible code telling you that you have no Ram installed. You cannot run this board without system ram. Fit some system ram and connect a video card and a drive. Make sure both cpu's are fitted and try again. If it still beeps, note the length and number of beeps and go to the ASUS website. You can find the audible codes in the support section under bios fault codes..

ASUS P4SP-MX motherboard no POST and no beep without ram

Try removing everything attached to it. The only thing should be the cpu and cpu fan. Turn it on. If it is the same, then it is your motherboard. If you do get the beeping, then start installing things one by one starting with the memory.
