Question about Vexilar Fl 18 Depth Finder/Fishfinder Style: Without Transducer

2 Answers

I have a Vexilar FL-18 that has done a great job for me! A couple of day's ago my screen started to look like I had a low battery and that was not the case. I have come to to thinking that the motor brushe's might be the problem. Anyone have any advice to offer on this? Thanks, Jim

My FL-18 does not want to find bottom that is the best way I can explain it .No matter what way I turn the nobs. I had problems with this in the past and I would turn the gain way up and the zoom nob to normal and back and it would work. Now nothing works it just has two red spots up top. has this happened to anyone else?

Check if transmitting pulse is present at the transducer by putting the face near your ear,you should hear a clicking sound,if not it could be the transducer or the unit ,borrow a trnsducer and test again.

I just bought a used fl18 from a friend and I had 2 ?'s first I would like to know what the BL,AZ,LP.NORM,BL,AZ on the mode switch mean and how do I use it allso, what do the yellow numbers on the inside...

The left side should be the "low power" mode otherwise known as "LP". The low power mode lets you run longer but the power output is less which may cause you to "pick up" less activity under your transducer. The "BL" stands for "bottom lock" which allows you to keep a steady view of the bottom while your transducer is in motion. That feature is usually used during open water situtations: choppy water. The "AZ" feature is the "auto zoom". This allows you to zoom into the last few feet on the bottom. If i remember correctly its the last 6' feet. If not then its 12'. The zoom feature helps with fish and lure sepperation especially in deer water since your display adjusts as you dial into deeper water. The dials on your unit correspond to your depth settings. The white scale is used mainly for shallow water and the yellow scale is used for deep water. For example: your dial is set at X1 on white. Take the white scale on your screen and multiply that by 1 and you have your depth. If your dial is set on X2 white then multiply your scale by 2. Same goes for the yellow. I know its been almost 2 years since the question was asked but i hope that someone who has the same question can find the answer here.

Vexilar only works when plugged into the wall. Is my battery dead? I have been charging for days and it doesn't work when unplugged.

Did you check and see if the charger is working?, first get a volt meter and set it on dc volts, then plug the charger into the wall socket, then check across the charger connection and see if you got volts, should be just at 14vdc if no volts, it could be a broken wire in one of the two strands, or broken off at one side or the other where it come out of the charger or at the connector end to the unit, or the transformer could be burnt open. Good luck.

My Garmin 400c dual beam transducer keeps freezing up, it will flash "0" depth and then go to a "updating software" screen.

check your battery voltage. Low voltage can cause errors end prevent the sonar from starting up. If charging the battery doesn't work then contact garmin for a replacement.

How long will a 100 amp battery run a 30 motor att 2 speed ?

The Endura 30 draws 30 amps at the highest setting (5), so it'll run 100/30 - 3.33 hours with a fully charged 100AH battery. At setting (4), it only draws 15 amps, so it'll run 100/15 = 6.6 hours. At the lowest setting, it draws 3 amps, and should run 33 hours.

The "S" cable is designed to decrease sonar signal strength output by 50%. Designed for use in shallow weedy lakes to filter out weaker signals allowing for better fish identification.
