Lens error colpix L14 - Nikon Coolpix L14 Digital Camera

Okay. So I was holding the camera above me and dropped it on the hardwood floor. I tried to turn it back on, but the screen said 'lens error', and there was something gray obstructing the view from the inside. I shook it to get it out of the way, and after a while that worked, but it kept saying 'lens error'. and further back, another gray thing is loose. i think the sutters are loose or something...help?

This is probably THE most common failure among digital cameras. There's a halfway chance of fixing it yourself, described here: http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/fixing-lens-error-on-digital-camera.html

The following blog outlines some repair options for a lens error. They won't work for all cases, but they're worth a try if the camera's no longer under warranty:

Push on button. Camera turns on, lens pops out.

Most of these kinds of errors come as a result of some kind of impact, sand or dirt exposure, possible water damage, or some other problem with the lens.
There is a possibility that the lens is off track.
Try pulling or pushing (not too hard either way) and see if it may be off track and return it to the correct setting.
Since it is not working anyway, try the above a few times and then test the camera to work right.
I have fixed more than one with similar (off track problems) and they worked good after wards.
Worth a try.
If nothing works, I suggest to sell it (include all that you have with the sale) on a site such as Ebay as parts, or as is repair. It should bring something like $20.00 to $50.00. The LCD is worth something over $15.00 alone. The other parts of the camera has value to those who repair cameras.

Take it in to be serviced. Or junk it and get a new L20 or something similar.

Lens error appaers and cannot take picture

i just fixed the problem. if your error is like mine, than when the lens goes out, hold it so it stays in place. and blow directly on the lense glass thing. than restart the camera and it should work. ok good luck =]

Not without opening her up, What sort of noise? clicking or grinding.

If grinding its likely you have contaminated the lens with something, maybe dust or grit.

If its clicking then its most likely the lens has taken a hit and damaged a gear

Either way any change in noise from a lens isn't a good sign, sorry
If taking pictures is important on this trip I would certainly recommend getting this one attended to or finding a backup
best of luck

This is either an internal camera fault, in which case you might like to try and get it sorted under warranty if there is any left or its an actual lens error (normally caused by it being bumped) and would be costly to fix. If it has been dropped/bumped it may be covered under your household insurance, worth checking.
