Where are the ethernet ports

Most desktops only have one ethernet port on their network interface cards. You can find this port on the back of the computer and is used for connecting to a network via an ethernet cable (CAT5/6/7). The port looks very much like a telephone port only larger as it has eight pins inside rather than than two or four for telephone ports.
What is the model number of the computer and we can check whether you should have more than ethernet port or not.

LAN port #2 <--- Ethernet cable --> network-port on desktop/laptop computer #2.
LAN port #3 <--- Ethernet cable --> network-port on desktop/laptop computer #3.

Configure the router's wireless adapter:
* set a SSID
* set an encryption-level, e.g., 'WPA'
* set a network password

Use the SSID/password to configure your wireless devices (iPod Touch, iPad, XBOX 360, etc.)

Wiring schematic for this router

Jehayman,

I am not if you are referring to the Ethernet connection when you said connections to the telephone line. Your WRT54G does not have a telephone port, it has an Ethernet port. If you would like to know how to connect this router to your network here is how you can do it.

If you look on the back of your router, there will be 5 Ethernet ports there (looks like a phone port but it's bigger). They are labeled 1,2,3,4, and WAN or Internet.

The ports labeled 1-4 are for your computer/s that will connect to the router through wired connection using an Ethernet cable. The port all by itself labeled WAN or Internet is where the modem should go to. If you dont have a modem from your ISP and just have a line that is plugged in straight to the computer, that line can be plugged in to that port.

C5180 all in one is not connecting via ethernet.

Before you begin: Check requirements Make sure you have the following items:
  • One of the following types of wired access points or routers: Ethernet router, switch, hub, or wireless router with Ethernet ports
  • A computer that connects to the wired access point or router
  • A Category 5 Ethernet cable to use for the HP product. (Do not use a standard telephone cable.) Figure 2: Cable comparisonc01710115.gif 1 - Ethernet cable 2 - Telephone cable (do not use) Although an Ethernet cable looks similar to standard telephone cable, each has a different plug and a different number of wires. The plug on an Ethernet cable (also called an RJ-45 connector) is wide, thick, and always has eight wires. The plug on a telephone cable is narrower and has between two and six wires.
Are you changing from USB connection to Ethernet connection?If you previously installed the software for a USB connection and now want to change to an Ethernet connection, follow these instructions to remove the USB installation before continuing.
  1. Click Start , click Printers and Faxes , and then right-click the icon for HP product.
  2. Click Delete to remove the product.
  3. Disconnect the USB cable from the product and the computer.
Step one: Connect the HP All-in-One to the network
  1. Remove any plug or protective cover from the Ethernet port on the back of the product. Figure 3: Remove plugc01710117.gif
  2. Connect the Ethernet cable to the Ethernet port on the product, and then connect the other end of the cable to an available port on the wired access point or router. Figure 4: Connect the Ethernet cablec01710118.gif
  3. Connect the power cord to the product, and then plug it into an electrical outlet.
  4. Turn the product on.
Step two: Decide whether to install with the product CD or download the software Don’t worry if you don’t have the product CD! You can download the most current software available for your product from the HP Web site at no cost. The following information might help you decide which installation method to use:
CD Download For a new product: CD installation is a quick and easy method. If you do not have a CD, you can download the software you need. For an older product: CD installation might not work if you are installing the product on a computer running a newer operating system that released AFTER the HP product released. Downloading the software provides the best results for your older product. Even though it takes more time than using the CD, downloading the latest software can help you avoid installation issues.

Downloading is the recommended method if your computer operating system released after the HP product released. About the software: The software on the CD is current to the date of the product release. The software that you can download from the HP Web site is the most current software available for your product. HP often updates software and drivers AFTER the product and CD release to the market.Step three: Install the software

Why my modem dsl isn't recognized by my computer

It does *NOT* need to be "recognized".

Connect a telephone-cable from the modem's telephone-port to a telephone wall-jack.

Connect the AC power to the modem.

Connect an Ethernet cable from the Ethernet-port on the modem to the Ethernet-port on your computer.

If you don't get an Internet connection, contact your ISP, and ask for Technical Support, and get them to trouble-shoot.

Cant find the ethernet port on my sony desktop

It should be located on the top right hand side, on the SIDE of the computer. It looks just like a phone jack hook up. Hope this helps. Also, if you don't have one or can't find it you can always plug in an adapter to the telephone line and then you can plug the ethernet cord into that.

Ethernet port

take a look at the telephone jack in your house.
The ethernet port looks like a telephone jack, except it has 8 pins instead of 4. and it is little bigger than the telphone jack.
it should be very close to the USB port.

Most Win98 Machines connected with Dial-up, And have an RJ11 Port (Standard Telephone) For the Verizon modem to connect to your PC you need an Ethernet Card (RJ45) You need to purchase something like this http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=3195642&st=ETHERNET+cARD&lp=4&type=product&cp=1&id=1051384122901
