NFW7200TW washer won't engage spin cycle

Hello, we have an Amana NFW7200TW washer that has been showing 8 min left in the cycle for about 20 minutes. It spins slowly one way with what sounds like the pump on and then spins the other way for about 30 seconds then does this all over again over and over. Any suggestions? Have tried turning it off and on again and just trying the spin cycle but the same thing happens again. the spin cycle does not seem to be engaging.

Same problem....spin cycle is stuck on 8 minutes and does not seem to fully engage. Just keeps going and going- first one way slowly, then the other....but never really picks up speed to spin the clothes dry.

We had the same problem with the same model machine and solved it.

Our machine was a month old and started getting stuck at minute 8, so we arranged service calls through Amana customer service. Long story short, the first three service reps couldn't figure out the problem. Two of them called Amana's in-house tech support line and the Amana techs didn't know what the problem was. The fourth repairman was smarter than his predecessors. He called the Amana in-house tech line, spoke to a rep who didn't know what was wrong, and then called in again. He explained that. based on his experience, some in-house techs knew more than others. That turned out to be the case because on his next call-in to Amana, that rep knew exactly what the problem was and recommended replacing the main computer board module. The repair guy ordered and installed the part. The machine has been working perfectly for a month.

We just got done fixing our machine without having to replace the $150.+ pump!!
step 1. Make sure there is nothing clogging the drain to wall hose (kink, hairball etc.) by hooking up a shop vac to the end.
step 2. repeat with tub to pump hose (we found a coin there).
step 3. remove the pump from the machine and inspect the impeller for foriegn objects (like a piece of broken clothespin).
step 4. if all of these fail, take the pump apart. It's not hard, and that is where we found the heart of the problem- the pump impeller is magnetically driven, we have a well with high iron content in the water. after removing a few screws and carefully taking the impeller & drive out, we found a large mass of iron laden mud was caked around the drive shaft !! After thoroughly rinsing out the mud, drying the parts and carefully reassembling the pump, hoses, etc. I have just started my first load of clothes in a week.

I would like to add that the details provided by momscheap was spot on. I went online looking for repair hints off the Amana website and was unable to find anything helpful only a replacement pump part number. I had a similar issue with the OD display and the washer being full of water. I remove the pump and disassembled and found an obstruction causing the OD display. One word of caution, make sure to wear gloves! Once you remove the back panel of the washer, the location where the pump is located is against a very sharp edge. Be prepared to have quite a bit of water come out once you disconnect the discharge hose (gray/white hose). As momscheap mentioned, having the use of a shop vac to remove all the water is an important first step! The De-assembly is very straightforward.

MOMSCHEAP was right! I took the back panel off and located the pump. Once I dismantled the pump and took of the white portion off the black and white pump there she was an old quarter lodged in it. Thanks, saved me a bunch.

Mine did this same thing last night, but was stuck at 34 minutes (between regular cycle and rinse). I was worried, but the spin finally kicked in after about 10 minutes.

It may be that it can't get the load balanced - if this reoccurs try removing some of the laundry and see if that helps. If it still refuses to spin, take out all the laundry and see if it will complete a spin only cycle. If THAT fails, then there's something wrong with it other than an unbalanced or overloaded load problem.

There's a way to get it to do a diagnostic cycle, I do not have the info at the moment, but I will be able to get it later this evening.

I have the same washing machine. The only time I have experienced this problem is when we overload or wash heavy blankets. When this happens, the washing machine is trying to redistribute the load so it will spin balanced. Try taking some of the wet clothes out. This always works. Hope this helps....

I have an Amana front load washer Model NFW7200TW it was making a loud rattling, growling noise when I heard it the first time. I loaded a 2nd load and this time during the spin cycle it wouldn't even start to spin, I could hear what sounded like the washer trying to energize the pump to remove water but nothing would happen. The error code nd flashed on the display which means no drain. I disconnected the hoses and removed the pump. I could see a quarter had gone through the washer and was lodged against the impeller of the washer pump. I used a needle nose pliers to remove it. Reinstalled the pump and it is working fine. Hope this helps someone.

Amana nfw7200tw will not run. all wash settings read 1 extra minute. Is this a code or something like that?

have you tried unplugging and resetting the computer, it seams hung in the last cycle, can you open the door and remove all inside, reset it again and try it, the washer sounds like it has water in it and needs to drain first,if it is full of water you have to drain it, by moving it and taken the drain hose off the pump,if that's the case i recommend flushing the inside with hot water and some bleach right through the front door or reservoir on top, after you get it emptied, the water sensor may be full of soap, by the way the soap your putting in this machine should only be about a 6th of a cup, I know it sound crazy but a half or a 3rd is to much, for the sensors, try this an get back to me,Matt

I have a similar problem with a Kenmore top loader washing machine. It turned out a problem with the main shaft of the drum; it wears out and caused drag on it. at one point i installed a washer or spacer between the shaft and drum it worked for a while and the problem came back again. it is a mechanical problem and it is present with other brands that share the same drum and shaft.
Finally I end up buying a different brand this time a LG .

My amana front load washer wont spin and is showing an "nd" error message. what does this mean and how do i fix it?

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. From what I understand the error code ND means “No Drain issue”. You’ll need to check for any restriction in pump assembly. It can also be due to a restricted drain hose or loose wire at pump. If after cleaning the drain hose the issue is not resolved then it means the pump has gone bad and unfortunately needs to be replaced. Please do rate the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

LG tromm washer stuck in rinse cycle

  • I had the same issue of being stuck in rinse and timer stuck at 20 min. Mine was a water flow problem, at the back of the washer where you hook up the water there is a small in line screen to stop debris from water supply. I removed them, they were clogged, cleaned them up, works great!!!
