Question about Harman Kardon AVR 120 Receiver

HK AVR 120 (left speaker not working)

Hi,

I have a HK AVR 120 receiver and I just bought two new bookshelf speakers and the left speaker is not working properly. The only time I can hear anything from it is when I turn it up loud and then it is just static and a really low sound. I swapped speakers and the left speaker worked fine on the right side. I also took out two old speakers and they had the same problem when hooked up to the HK receiver. So I am guessing the problem is with the receiver and I am not sure what to do at this point.

Anyone have any idea's?

Hi, your analysis are right, your speakers has no problem, the problem is in your receiver.
there are several factors that affects it, try some troubleshooting: and answer this questions:

1. During this event, what is the source of your INPUT audio signal?
Have you tried to replaced your RCA cables that connected to the source of your receiver?

If YES, then problem really exist in the internal system of your receiver. may be you have overdrive your receiver unintentionally, which cause the Power Amplifier to malfunction,

On this event, I would suggest that you bring your receiver to it's Service Center for repair,
This problem needs technical troubleshooting of a qualified technician.

Hi. We have a Harman Kardon DVD and AVR and a Proline TV. When playing DVDs the sound from the AVR is not playing all tracks (usually the voice track is missing) - just background music and the odd door...

Your HK DVD probably has outputs for left and right audio and video (possibly color coded red, white, and yellow). These should connect to the corresponding DVD (or VCR) inputs on the rear of your AVR. When you play a DVD with your AVR set for DVD/VCR input, you should hear all of the stereo audio (there are no "missing tracks"). Next, review your speaker connections. They should be connected + terminal to the corresponding + terminal on the AVR, etc. One or more speakers may be connected backwards. If your AVR has speaker system A B provisions, be sure that speaker (system) A only has been selected.

Connection between harmon receiver and A-bus in wall speakers...

There is a CAT5/RJ45 A-Bus interface on the back of the HK AVR 435. That needs to connect to your A-BUS "hub". HK has two hub products: ABH-4000 and ABH-4 (older). Then CAT5 cable can be run from this hub to Wall-installed room-specific controls. HK has the AB-2 product, but any ABus compatible wall control will work. From the wall control, you wire regular audio cable to the speakers. So, some of the questions/issues to solve are: where do the existing wires go that are connected to the in-wall speakers? Typically that location is where to place your in-wall volume and source controls. Then the CAT5 gets wired from those controls back to the hub. And all that's required is a single CAT5 from the AVR to the Hub.

Humming sound (speakers)when HK AVR is powered up.

In my case the buzz was only on front speakers. There are 3 capasitors (100uF/25V) very close to the cooling ribs of 3 regulators in the power supply. In my case the C922 was bad.

Static and popping from Harmon Kardon AVR 340

Hi,

You seem have a problem with a component in that channel, the bad news is that it is hard to fix that type of problem (you would be better off if the channel died). All of the components in the final output section are part of the same audio loop (per channel), which makes it hard to find the faulty part.

Sounds to me like a bypass or coupling capacitor is faulty or need to be re-soldered, either way to fix this problem you should take it in to a repair shop.

I hope that helps and sorry for the bad news.
