Question about Nintendo 64 Console

1 Answer

My Nintendo 64 won't work after inserting a RAM expansion.

I bought Zelda: Majora's Mask and an N64 RAM expansion produced by Yobo Gameware. When prompted to insert a RAM expansion, I turned the console off and inserted the 3rd party accessory. Next, the console's light turns on, but I get no picture except for a black or blue screen. I've tried using alternate AV cables, triple-checking connections, cleaning contacts carefully, and replacing the original jumper pak. I can't even imagine what's wrong. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I have the same exact problem. I just bought Majora's Mask and the expansion pack. I put the expansion pack in, turned on the system, and I only got a black screen. I tried putting the original memory back in and it still will not play.

I searched for "Yobo" on this site and discovered there are many people with this problem. I sent an email to Yobo today. Hopefully they will respond. I am so upset. I was looking forward to playing Majora's mask and now I cannot play anything.

How to play Donkey Kong 64 without Expansion pack

Donkey Kong 64 was one of only three Nintendo 64 games to require the Expansion Pak (the others being The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask and Perfect Dark), which provides 4 MB more RAM for enhanced graphics and more expansive environments, as well as to fix a game-breaking bug.We don't think that you can play this game with no expansion pack. I have tried to play perfect dark with no expansion pack and it was not all there then.

What does an expansion pack for the n64 do? what is its purpose? and are they interchangeable?

I will refer you to a page on Wikipedia that explains it -- but the simple explanation is that the Nintendo 64 Expansion Pack increases the RAM on the N64 from 4MB to 8MB. There were a few games with improved graphics and game play that REQUIRED the expansion pack.

Yes you can remove the Expansion Pak from one N64 and put it into another. However, your N64 will NOT work without either the Expansion Pak or the Jumper Pak in that slot. The original memory card that came in there was called the Jumper Pak which was 4MB. The Expansion Pak was 8MB.

My console wont work and when it did it had an error sign. Something about needing a pak. What do I need and how do I get one?

your looking for the "expansion pack" its needed to play the games on the n64, it is located on top of the n64 towards he front of the console. that little door/flap between the power and reset button. get one online for cheap. like ebay or something. keep in mind there are 2 different kind of expansion packs on is black. it is the standard one. one is red on top, that one is better and will play all n64 games like donkey kong 64 and zelda ocarina of time

N64 and expansion pak whoas!

If your husband plugged it in without turning it off, the jumper pak, or the control deck itself is more than likely fried. Check and see if the control deck will work with the memory pak, instead of the jumper pak inside it. If not, the control deck is fried, and you'll need to buy another N64.

N64's Zelda, majoras mask problem

The Jumper pack is needed for Majora's mask, as the extra space is needed for the game to play the enhanced graphics. Ocarina of time was made before the jumper pak was introduced, so it does not need it.
As for installing it, get a jumper pak installer kit to remove the original memory pak, the insert the new one.

The ram expansion was probably it. I think he should just buy a new one and change the cases.
