Broiler works fine. When bake is selected, regardless of temp set, the oven will not reach a temp higher than 200-250. I do see the glow ignitor at the back of the oven burner glow red but no flames from the burner.
It takes forever for the oven to even reach that. Is there some type of safety lock involving the door? The door doesn't seem to latch when you close it and at times even appears slightly open?

There are two possibilities for problems with the range. If it has a "timed bake" setting for the oven then it's possible that the last person who used it neglected to return the setting to the manual mode. In "timed bake" mode, the oven will heat to approx. 160 - 185 degrees, what is called a "keep warm" temp. It will maintain that heat setting regardless of what you set the oven temp control to, as long as you're not in the time frame that it's set to bake. This will make trying to bake anything a very difficult procedure. The second possibility is that the oven glo coil igniter is cracked and will not heat to the proper temp to allow the electricity to flow through it to the oven gas safety valve to allow it to open and let the gas flow to the burner. These things are ceramic and for some reason crack in normal use. If it has a top broiler, that unit is obviously good. Unfortunately, the igniters are seldom interchangeable. You would need a tech to check the igniter with an ohmmeter.
When the bake igniter becomes weak or burns out, your oven would not bake. The bake igniter is usually mounted on the oven burner. It's about 1 inch by 4-8 inches (depending on the model), and comes in round or flat styles. If you don't see the igniter glow at all, it's probably burned out. Replace the igniter if found defective. Note: one of the exceptions could be that your oven is set to automatic mode instead of manual. If this is the case, set your oven to manual mode and check again.
If the bake igniter glows red and not bright yellow or white, it is probably because it is too weak. When this happens, the safety valve would not let the gas out into the oven burner. A weak igniter must be replaced.
A faulty igniter is probably the most common cause, however there are others:
-- defective thermostat -- defective selector switch -- defective gas safety valve -- defective gas valve coils
The temperature sensor is bad. The broil element will work even if the temp sensor is bad but the bake element will not. If you measure the resistance across the contacts on the sensor, it should be around 20 ohms, if it is much higher (1000+), then it is bad and should be replaced. It is just as easy to replace as the elements and looks like a small pencil sized rod in the inside top of the oven. Let me know how this works out for you.
