Dont know what kind of monitor you have but there should be some buttons on it to adjust things like contrast, brightness, screen size etc.. try that first

if not go to--

start -> control panel -> display -> settings -> advanced -> there should be a tab for your graphics driver software in there. try changing the screen size

Tip

How to format and instal a window xp

1.Insert your Windows XP installation disc into your CD drive

2.Now as you computer boots a little more it will say "Press any key to boot from CD.." press a key to do so.

3.The CD will load up a blue screen and then spend a while loading files it needs. When it is finished it will list a few options, mainly "Press ENTER to set up Windows XP." Press Enter or Return.

4. Now you will be at a screen to select where to install Windows to. This is where you can delete old partitions and format drives. The box in the bottom half of the screen shows all your drives and the partitions that exist on them. Use the Up and Down arrow keys to highlight your "C:" partition and press the 'D' key (if all that shows up is "Unpartitioned space" and you have no C: or D: partitions, skip this step). On the next screen press the 'L' key to finalize deleting the partition.

5.Now you are back on the screen to choose where to install Windows. The box on the lower half of the screen should no longer show a partition but simply have an entry "Unpartitioned space xxxxxMB." Select this with the arrow keys and press the 'C' key to create a partition on the drive. The next screen tells you the minimum and maximum sizes the partition can be and lets you pick the size. The default size is the maximum, but double check that the number entered is the maximum and hit enter.

6.Now you will again be back at the choose where to install Windows screen. But this time you will have a partition that looks something like this "C: Partition1 [New (Raw)]xxxxxxMB." Highlight this entry and press enter.

7.The next screen lets you choose which file system to format the drive with. Choose NTFS as it is faster and more secure. If the drive is brand new and has never been used before then use one of the options that ends in "(Quick)." Or, choose one of the lower down options. Use the arrow keys to select the proper one and press Enter or Return.

8. From here you are all set and the installation of Windows will proceed starting with a format of your drive. This will take a while (over half an hour)

I want to change my desktop background. .what is the easiest and safest site to go to for reat pictures?

Right click your mouse on an empty area of the desktop. A small menu will appear.
 1. Click on Properties [This will be Personalize on Windows Vista or Windows 7] to open the Display Properties screen window.
 2. 3Select the Desktop tab, if using Windows XP. Windows 98 users can select the Background tab.
 3. 4Choose a background. On the lower left half of the Display Properties Window, you will see Background (Win XP) or Wallpaper (Win 98). You can choose a background from the long menu list by clicking on the background/wallpaper design you want.
 4. 5Select a position. Stretch is generally the best choice but if the image you have selected is of a low resolution or an aspect ratio different from your monitor's, then Center or Tile will work best.
 5. 6Click OK to close the Display Properties Window.

Vaio PCV-W30- The computer stops at the blue Windows XP screen and will not load Windows. The DVD drive will not open. Cant do a restore. Any suggestions?

Should be a small hole in DVD drive lid.
Turn off computer and carefully insert a straightened paper clip.
Gently push & the lid should pop out.
Then you can open the drive & use the windows cd to repair/restore

MY COMPUTER SCREEN HAS GONE SMALL I am trying to solve it according to the following help note. But i cannot find display adaptor in device manager box Try right clicking on the desktop then selecting...

Your screen is too small it is because the display driver is not installed that's why there's no Display Adapter in device manager, to solve this:

1. Identify your Emachine's model name and download the driver for your display adapter here:

http://www.emachine.com/support/drivers.html

2. In this website you have to select the model of your emachine in order to download the right driver for your display adapter

3. Choose the right operating system ( *Windows XP)

After downloading and installing the display driver, you'll see the the windows will fit the your screen

Try a Repair Install with your WinXP Bootable CD. If Repair option fails you will have to do a Clean Reinstall of WinXP as a last resort.
Some details:
1. Boot with your WinXP CD
2.At the "Welcome To Setup" screen, Choose the option:
To setup Windows XP now, press ENTER. DO NOT choose !!!! To repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R. IGNORE
To quit Setup without installing Windows XP, press F3
3. Accept the License Agreement and Windows will search for existing Windows installations. 4.Select the XP installation you want to repair from the list and press R to start the repair. If Repair is not one of the options, under the Circumstances you are in the next option will be Clean install
5. I this does not work it might be your memory --download and burn to cd memtest (http://www.memtest86.com/) and test your memory for errors.

Windows does not start

Error 257 is an error message (according to Western Digital's website of error messages) meaning that you have a hard drive problem. Also, from the sound of your re-installation problem, you most definitely have a hard drive problem. Get a new one, preferable a beefy brand-name one with at least 250GB; more if you can afford it. Installation is not too difficult, if you know your way around a PC chassis. If not, call around to local PC repair shops and ask for estimates of doing just this, nothing more. You can install XP Pro yourself back at home. You may spend a lot more money that you planned if you let them up-sell you, though. If this was a car, you just need a new engine, not a whole new car...just go into this with eyes open and you'll be OK.
