Question about Gateway (5500652) ( 5500652) DVD Drive
"optiarc dvd rw ad-7563a ata device"
the device manager is saying the device cannot start (error 10)

I just had the same problem (Windows XP)... here's what I did to fix it:
- Open Device Manager, IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers
- Delete "Secondary IDE Channel"
- After reboot, I got a the new hardware found dialog for the Opticarc. Just ignore it (hit cancel)
- The next New Hardware Found dialog box was for the Secondary IDE Channel. Just use the existing driver.
- Let it finish, then reboot.
The really weird thing is that I used Acronis to image the drive and restored the image onto another (exactly identical) laptop using Universal Restore and _still_ had this issue. Odd. But at least it's fixed now.

I was having this same problem. Mine now works! Go to gateway support, register your computer if you have not done so already--you will need your date of purchase, place of purchase, and serial #.
use online chat. allow them to share control of mouse--they were able to resolve the problem in about 3 minutes!

Try uninstalling the drive and reboot. Usually Windows will reinstall the drive which fixes the propblem. If you are still getting error 10 after you reinstall then it is either a problem with the drive cable or drive itself. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: My dvd does not play
Is this an internal or external drive? if it is an internal one then on the device manager screen where it is hows the yellow sign on signoptiarc dvd rw ad 7563a ata device, right click on that an click on uninstall.....And if any pop up comes up click on ok and restart the pc after that. Wait for the pc to reinstall the driver for the dvd drive. And then check the status of the dvd drive on device manager. If it does not have any yellow sigh then try again.
