Question about Apple HP DeskJet 940c InkJet Printer

My HP 940c printer won't print. The cartridges new in 7/08 worked fine, I have not used them much, now they won't print.

I have the same problem. Changed cartridges many times before but did not have any problems. This time the orange light keeps blinking after putting in new cartridges.

There is another website with a whole discussion on this problem.

It has everything to do with the cartridges. I had just refilled a color at Walgreens, and it wouldn't work. I switched to an old (empty) one and it does work. Several people say that hard core cleaning will solve it.

it prints fine using the new hp 15 black ink cartridge. But when I print with the new color 17 cartridge, it comes out with uneven 'cross lines' of color, like sliced sideways.

and then try them 
if you see no improve you must change 
your cartridges

Hi! I have a huge problem with my hp deskjet 940c. It won't print colors - only pink! I have bought two new print cartridges, but it's still no good. The black one is okay. Can you help me?

The issue here is that Most HP printers after a certain amount of years of use have that issue, mine was with the black cartridge so i bought a new one from best buy for about 30 bucks not bad for a decent all in one printer

My HP 940C only prints in shades of red. I replaced with new HP 15 & 78 Cartridges, still have same problem!

Some HP ink refills have the exact same product number but the electrical contact tips on the back of the cartridge are not the same configuration, resulting in red ink only being printed. One example is the DeskJet color ink cartridge C1823D having multiple configurations.Find a printer just like yours that's working properly and compare the contact tips if possible. HP tech help is a joke on this one. Good luck!

Sounds like the cartridge head is blocked.

Try getting something like a jam jar lid and placing some hot water into it and place the cartridge in there for a few minutes and then dab with some kitchen towel...

Works for me, every time

940c just prints only half the page it starts printing without the first part of page

try replacing the print cartridge. If that doesn,t work try cleaning the ink reservoir. Be careful it could get messy. use a q-tip with a little alcohol. also clean the contacts behind the print cartridge. always turn off the printer before servicing it.

I had the same problem and the following worked for me: I used a cotton swab with alcohol to clean contact points (copper colored dots) on the back of the ink cartridges themselves. I also gently cleaned the brass-colored pins in the cartridge slots. Hope this solves your problem.

I need your help my printer quit printing, I was low on ink and it quit printing after I printed a page. I changed cartridges and it still would not print, so I swapped cartridges with a different printer...

So it prints the self test (test page) or not?

If nothing is printing from at all (printer moves likes it is printing when in operation, but no ink hitting paper) there may be a blockage on the jets or the information is not getting to the printer properly if these same cartridges work on another printer.

I would lift lid and carefully check each one and wipe with a thin cloth the remove any clotted ink and dirt.

You have already reinstalled the drivers, but I would get the latest ones you can from

Finally I would cold reset the printer - usually holding the go button pressed in while hitting the power button on and off - will reset rthe calibration and give you a better chance of fixing.

Also if you have the cartridges for the wrong model, they may physically fit in, but the chip on the cart will tell the printer theres a problem and won;t print.


- Check cartridges - off the top of my head (please check!) you should be using HP 45 for Black and HP 68 for Colour (if using a different brand, fine but the numbers are thee same)
- Download latest drivers
- Cold reset printer and install again

faithful is good..the toolbox you are referring to, is the HP toolbox? that's a driver issue, plain and simple..
