Try hitting the fn key which means Function some laptops you hit twice and it will keep it on constant and won't allow you to use your letter keys

My numeral key are not working[123456789 right side of key bord]

Step 1:
On some laptops it may be difficult to locate and activate the "Num Lock" key. Depending on the laptop, it may be hidden as a function where you have to press two keys. Most of the time, a laptop keyboard is just like a full desktop computer keyboard and it has a "Num Lock" key on it. Most people do not realize the "Num Lock" key is on their laptop keyboard because it barely serves a purpose without a full numeric keypad.

Press the "Num Lock" key on the laptop at the top, right of the keyboard. Press the "Num Lock" key and the "Fn" key simultaneously if the above does not work. Press "Fn" and "F11" simultaneously on the keyboard to activate the "Num Lock" function. Some laptops, like Toshiba, do have a "Num Lock" key. The shortcut for G3 Mac laptops it is "F5," and on G4 Mac laptops it is "F6."

I locked my keyboard on fn by hitting some buttons i dont know how i did it though ! like when i go to type j or something a 2 comes up . i have to hold the fn key just to type this now. Help!

Ok, your numLK (number lock) is activated. Hold the Fn key on the bottom left or right of the keyboard, then press the Insert/numLK key on the top right of the keyboard. You should see a graphic box indicating "number lock off." Hope this helps. RoyBK

My function key is on and i cant figure out how to turn it off

Hi,

To use the embedded keypad

After pressing Fn+F8 to activate the numeric keypad, you must press the Lock key
(in the top row of the keyboard) to turn number lock on or off.
When number lock is on:
• Keys change to the numeric or arithmetic designations printed on the right side of the
keys in the numeric keypad area.
• The Num Lock status indicator is lit.
• To turn off the embedded keypad, press Fn+F8 again.

For further reference of usage of Function keys, check the HP manual:

Keyboard

The Numeral Lock mode is turned on by pressing the key named "NUM LOCK" which is usually located on the top of the number keypad (on far right side of keyboard).

However, laptop keyboards are different. Most laptops do not have a separate numeral keypad set. Those laptops usually use a blue (or other color-coded) "Fn" key, on the bottom left. You must press that Fn key at the same time as the "Num Lock" key of same colr. Then a light comes on to indicate the mode change, and some alpha-numeric keys on the keyboard now become your numeral keypad. On mine, it is 789, UIO (456), JKL (123) and M (which is zero).

If this is too confusing, you can plug in a cheap full size desktop keyboard, using the USB or PS2 port on your laptop. That is what I prefer, because the funky integrated dual-key deal interferes with all the touch-typing I learned 37 years ago.

Function keys not working

try holding down the function key and hitting the numlock or scroll lock key, this is usually how you engage or disengage the laptops function keys on the keyboard. Most laptops have a light that will turn on and off when you do this, indicationg that the funtion keys are in use. depends on the brand
