Question about Ricoh XR-7M II 35mm SLR Camera

Open Question

Mirror issues Hello, I inherited a ricoh xr-2s from my dad (i know this is a XR7 forum, but hopefully u can help.) the issue happened recently (at the end of my first roll of film) with about 4 shots left. The issue is the mirror comes up and stays up WHEN i advance the film to take the next picture. then i cant take a picture. i have to wind again and let the forward film lever swing back (its spring loaded), when i do that, the film gets exposed... thats when the lens isnt is, when the lens is in the camera, the only way to get the mirror back down is by pressing the aperture preview button.. the issue isnt the battery as they are new and it even does that on the mechanical setting.. Any ideas?!? i mean this really sucks, it was working fine, then only half the time, now not at all!! Id rather fix it on my own if possible, its an old camera and its repair will be more costly than its actual worth! but i love the thing and it has sentimental value. Thanks alot.

You probably need to take the camera in for repair. It sounds like the film transport is not connected to the shutter/mirror cage ***'y.

There is a good chance you can repair this yourself. If you advance the film winder handle so that you can see the bottom of it there should be a screw visible. remove this screw to take off the plastic cover of the winder handle. The actual winder is metal and attached to the camera with a screw that can become loose. I believe the metal lever is keyed to only go on the winder shaft at the correct place. Reattach the metal winder arm and then place the plastic cover back on. One thing to watch is that the plastic cover has a small tab at the shaft end, so it needs to go on with a clamshell motion rather than straight down. My camera has the small tab broken off so I have a bit of hot glue holding on that end, which also acts to keep the shaft screw from moving.

If you have Ricoh lenses that do not have electrical contacts, you can use the lenses on Pentax digital SLR cameras.

Just inherited a Nikon F100. When the shutter is

Here's the usermanual:

on page 101 (Troubleshooting) it mentions the Err message, and the shutter again to release it - According to the guide its a Refer Nikon Service Centre issue.

From how you describe it, it is consistent with there being a problem with lens compatibility. It would be worth checking compatibility (with the chart on pages 32 - 33) - Although if you inherited it "as a unit" I doubt thats the root cause..

Hope this helps

I am unable to view through the viewfinder. I have taken out the film, and I can even fire the shutter, and the view finder is still black. I removed the lens and the issue is still there. Any help would...

is the mirror stuck in the up position? if so the rubber bumpers have become sticky. try to ( gently ) pull the mirror down it should fall freely, then clean the mirror with alcohol. you may have to remove the foam rubber bumper to prevent the mirror from sticking again. the mirror mechanism will work without the bumper just fine.

Blank film

Make sure when you load your film, that the cogs are actually winding the film. Many a roll has been "shot" with the film ever advancing. If you see what your taking, that is really about all that it could be.

Mirror is stuck in "up" position and film will not advance

Normally, stuck mirror is due to weak batteries with a elcetromagnetic shutter like the Ricoh. Try with brand new silver oxides and see if it helps!

Shutter Release button

Did you try changing the aperture? Depending on the lighting in the area, you may want to change this accordingly, if you put it in AUTO, and you're in a dark room the shutter might not open immediately.

XR 7 locked up

Just read on another forum where the film rewind button can get stuck (little button on the bottom of the camera, used to initiate rewind), and removing the camera bottom allows access to unjam it.  I'll try... takes a small philips eyeglass screwdriver and young eyes (or my reading glasses...)
