Mr Allan first thing you must do is to renew the fuel filter, check if there is any other filters and then if you still have any old fuel in tank drain it,fill it up with a clean diesel and my personal advice as an automotive engineer try what I do personally, ask from a petrol station if they sell- " TWO STROKE OIL " yes is the oil use in mixing with petrol for mopped motorcycles. Use 250ml in tank full of diesel ,-full tank to empty -before light comes on and re-use again 250ml for another full tank and continued for four times. It is also good to do this even for two times filling every two months,. Two Stroke Oil has the power to clean and lubricate the feeding system of a diesel engine also treats the fuel injectors even when you might hear them working rough. It is like a cough medicine. Try it and let me know.

SOURCE: Toyota d4d avensis lack of power black smoke ,

black smoke is one indication of a motor running very rich...the sensor that has the most control of this will be the the airflow meter...ive seen black smoke coming from all types of cars when these go bad

Avensis Fuel Light

Hi AC, Presumably we're talking about a diesel powered vehicle. Make sure that the connections to the fuel filter are correctly connected and that there is no short circuit between those cables and the chassis. If all is okay you may need to replace the sender unit on th bottom of the filter. Regards John

Lack of power is it the turbo or the cat..?/

"whoa big fellar" before you star pointing at big$ probs try fuel filter. Also when was last tune up? Sometimes something simple as carbon build up can cause lack of power. I would start with a "ground zero" tune up and go from there before you start throwing parts at it to only find out it was dirt in an injector

Toyota Avensis D4D 2004 2.0L DIESEL

Hi there!

I think you will probably have to use two sources of information for work in this.

Info on the Toyota Diesel engine is downladable from this Website -

http://pdftown.com/Toyota-Engine-1KZ-TE3-Litre-Turbo-Diesel-Hilux-4WD-Service-Manual.html

And a copy of the Haynes manual for the Petrol version is available Here for a reasonable cost -

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FREE-POST-UK-HAYNES-TOYOTA-AVENSIS-R-52-B-NEW-MANUAL_W0QQitemZ140241391104QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item140241391104&_trkparms=72%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C65%3A12&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

Most sections will be covered between these two sources.
