Canon IP3000, problem printing black

My first indication of a problem was when trying to print a photo. All the colors in the photo seemed wrong as if one of the colors wasn't printing. I ran so test patterns and it seemed ok at first but then the black became spotty. At thins point it wouldn't even print black text from my word processor. I decided to remove the print head and do a good cleaning by soaking it in a warm solution of amonia and water for a couple of hours. After reinstalling the head and printing a few test patterns, it seemed ok... but I was wrong. All black text would print very well but when printing a photo it seemed not to be printing black at all, just cyan, magenta and yellow. I did a test print from a web page to test this where there was text and pictures and got the same result.... black text looks great but photos are missing black. Wossup with this dang thing?

The print head may be failing, you would have to send it in for service for a checkup.

Noting wrong with your cartridges its the unit that is controlling them. They 'fail' eventually and cause this.

Got warranty? maybe they will fix it for you free.

Check with canon or your dealer.

Thanks,
Ekse

Black won't print. Changed all ink cartridges,

It may need a new purge assembly, if it doesn't clean both sides properly either color or black will quit. You might try a new printhead first, QY6-0064-000 around $40.00

Printing in color

hi

often the printer 'driver' settings on your printer are set to greyscale only
on the pc open the control panel, printers
right click on the printer and select properties
open the control for the printer and go to the printing preferences (on the general tab)
on the next window (main) look down and ensure the setting is set to colour (not greyscale)
ok out and try printing again

these settings are from my iP5000 and should be similar
try looking in the preferences for similar options
