NO SOUND ON A NEW HP DV4

I have a hp dv4, . When i turn on the computer , the mute light is on and i can´t turn it off, but in the laptop´s screen appears the sound icon and it displays that the computer´s sound is working perfectly and mute is turned off. To solve the problem I have to restart the computer 3 or 2 times, so that the mute light on my laptop can be turned off and on, but i keep getting this problem as I say average 3 times a week.

I have the same problem and the same computer. How do I find the sound devices? I went to the uninstall section, but I can't seem to find the drivers.

Same issue on DV4 1125. Sound got "stuck" on mute with inability to change from either touch button or wireless keyboard button.

Partial fix by uninstalling the audio drivers. I got back control of muting or unmuting the sound. However, the indicator light now stays white all the time whether muted or not.

At least I have sound, so many thanks for the suggestion.

I have also a similar problem with sound on my HP DV4 1114nr. I can hear audio from earphone jack but not from built-in speaker. Any Idea? Downgraded from Vista to XP.

The best resolution for this issue is
go to the device manager and uninstall the sound drivers and than restart the system and the drivers will get detected again and the issue will be resolved

A couple updates will solve this issue of a non-responsive mute button (and perhaps related problems).

Go to www.hp.com. Click on the support and drivers tab and locate your model and operating system.

Download the latest audio driver (near the top), and also the latest file for the "quick launch buttons" (your touch-sensitive controls) under keyboard, mouse and input devices.

Try the audio codec first. Both files are self-installing. Just double click and restart when prompted.

... the alsa developers have a solution for this issue:

When you boot you get no sound from your internal laptop speakers though you do get sound from the headphone jack.

The cause, according to some alsa developers, is an incorrect 'pin' assignment (in the BIOS, perhaps) whereby sound output meant for the internal speakers gets routed to the wrong place.

If you have an HP dv4, dv5, and perhaps a dv7 model series laptop, you may have this issue.

The latest alsa-driver snapshot provides a fix for this issue. I'm listening to a Keith Jarrett jazz cd right now through the internal speakers of my HP Pavilion dv4 1225 laptop after downloading, compiling, and installing the latest snapshot. You can get it here:

ftp://ftp.kernel.org/pub/linux/kerne...napshot.tar.gz

After downloading and gzip/tarring the files, you'll need sudo privileges to:

Code: #> ./configure --enable-dynamic-minors
#> make
#> sudo make install-modules
#> sudo vim /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base
[add 'options snd_hda_intel model=hp-dv5' sans quotes to the bottom of the file, even if you have a dv4, etc.]
#> sudo reboot After restart, you should have sound from the laptop speakers.

If you do not, you should consider the alsa developers your best resource. They have some tools you can use to discover what's happening and since they write the code that goes into the kernel for the sound drivers, they can hopefully fix your problem. Just go to the alsa web site and find the alsa-devel email list and join up.

NOTE: this does not require a kernel build NO SOUND ON A NEW HP DV4 - icon_smile.gif I post this to the ubuntu forum with the permission of several of the alsa developers I've been working with.

sounds like it's a physical problem not software, but to be sure i would update the audio drivers and see if that helps.

go here and pick your system and follow the steps to get any new drivers and install and see what happens.

Hp dv 7-1135nr speaker won't work, headphones do

I suddenly got the same problem on my dv4-1120us today.. However by updating the audio driver to this one it started working again:

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp41501-42000/sp41616.exe

You better take a look at HP's website.. maybe you will need a slightly different driver, since your computer is not exactly the same as mine. I'm sure the sound card is the same, but better safe than sorry. good luck!
