I have sound problems with my laptop using softphones and MSN

I have a Gateway laptop model number MX6425. I am tryin to use Callcentric softphone but people I call hear my voice but what I say comes in so distorted that they cannot understand what I say. They describe my voice as being broken in small meaningless syllables. I Have the same problem with Messenger. Everything work Video in and out and voice in but they cannot hear me properly. I have checked that all my drivers are up to date but nothing doing. All the software and hardware work on my other computer. There seems to be nothing about this problem on Gateway's site. I feel the problem in with the audio driver but I have the latest version. Can you help me with this problem.

Goto Control Panel -> Sounds and Audio Devices -> Audio tab
go down to sound recording/microphone or whatever it maybe labeled and click on volume. try to lower the input and see if that helps

also your microphone might have it's own control panel, try to look for that and adjust levels if possible.

Try deleting the driver and reintalling it.Also, restart computer before you reinstall.

Cannot get my softphone to engage my headset.


You probably need to check your audio controls in your computer's control panel to make your headset the default audio device and also make sure your softphone control panel is set the same way.

The softphone does not detect audio hardware.Depending on the softphone you may need to choose in settings the hardware device for input/output, ensure you have done so.
If that does not work, check speakers and mic installation in Ubuntu.

I can hear the other person but they cannot hear me.


Thanks for your help. The person that helped was knowledgeable and understood the problem. We quickly addressed the problem and was solved within a few short minutes.

The settings on my laptop needed to be changed and that solved the problem.
It is working fine now.

I would like to be updated on products related to softphone and skype use.
since i spend most of my working hours on both it's important to have the best headsets that are comfortable and cancel out outside noise.

No Voice Through Headset


From another website. I can't take any credit:

"I'm using Vista.

Okay, I finally figured out how to fix it ....

Control Panel -> Sound -> Right-click "Properties" -> "Levels" Tab -> Un-mute Microphone and move the slider to 100."

Then turn up the headset speaker control all the way.
