Re: help!

An electronics store or Radio Shack should carry this. Take your old one with so that they can test it - it should be at least 3V. The battery type is CR1616 or CR1620

What is the different between ti-86 and ti-83

The 86 has more memory. It also has some advanced calculus capabilities the 83 doesn't. However you're much more likely to see examples for the 83 in textbooks and other references.

I own a TI-83 Plus that just quite one day. I replaced the battery and still nothing. The display never recovered. Between my son and daughter and I this is the third TI-83 Plus that has had power circuit...

When you change the batteries the display reverts to default setting. My optimistic guess is that the screen display is so light that you cannot see anything on it. This can be arranged.

A Try this before thinking of repairs.

  1. Push the ON button.
  2. Even if you see nothing, press the [2nd] key and release it.
  3. Press and HOLD the UpArrow key until the screen darkens.
  4. You may have to keep pressing UpArrow for a little while before you see anything.
B If that does not work
  1. Remove one of the AAA batteries.
  2. Press and hold the [CLEAR] key.
  3. Whileholding [CLEAR], reinsert the AAA battery and then
  4. turn the calculatoron.
  5. The calculator should display the message "RAM Cleared".
  6. Release the [CLEAR] key and then press it one more time to remove the message "RAM Cleared".
C. Third option

  1. Remove batteries including the backup battery for 5minutes.
  2. After the 5 minute period, reinsert all of the batteries and
  3. turn the calculator on.
  4. Adjust the contrast if necessary.
D. Last option

The last option requires the reinstallation of the system. So to use it you must download the TIConnect 1.6 software from You must have the TI USB SilverLink or the TI Black serial cables ready. You must be connected to the Internet.
  1. Remove one of the AAA batteries.
  2. Press and hold the [DEL] key.
  3. Whileholding [DEL], reinsert the AAA battery and then
  4. turn the calculatoron.
  5. The calculator should display "Waiting...Please install calculator software now".
  6. Connect the TI Connectivity cable between the computer and the calculator.
  7. Click on Start >> Programs >> TI Tools >> TI Connect >> TI OSDownloader.
  8. Follow the on-screen directions to reinstall the calculator's OS.
Ifthe message "Error! Press any key to turn unit off. Then turn unit backon." appears on the graphing calculator, quickly, remove one batteryfrom the calculator and reinstall it while the transfer is taking place.

How to calculate calculus problem by a scientific calculator fx-991ms

If by calculus problem you mean derivatives of functions, integrals, extrema and such things, I am sorry to inform you that neither the Casio FX-300MS, nor the FX-991MS can handle them. The newer Casio calculator FX-991ES is capable of performing numerical differentiations and integrations. There also graphing calculators by Casio FX-9750G, FX-9860G as well as by Texas Instruments (TI 83 PLUS/TI84PLUS) that are reasonably performant in that area.

Hope it helps.

Can't turn on my new TI-83 calculator

I cannot tell you why that happened (I am no prophet), I can just try to diagnose plausible causes. If it solves the problem, then my guess was good; if it does not then my diagnostics was wrong, and you should try other solutions.
My hunch is that the screen contrast has turned too light. The procedure to darken the screen is as follows.

1. Press the yellow [2nd] key and release it.
2. Press the [UpArrow] and release it.
3. Repeat Step 1 and Step 2 in sequence until the screen darkens, to your liking. You may have to repeat procedure several times. Main batteries must be good.

Hope it helps.

TI-83 Plus Silver Edition problem

These instructions are from, and worked for me.

1) Take out one of the AAA batteries
2) Hold down the CLEAR button
3) Put the AAA battery back in while still holding down the CLEAR button
4) Let go of the CLEAR button and turn the calculator ON
5) Press CLEAR to get rid of the error message.

Then you should be good! All the applications on my calculator were still intact, so despite the error message, the RAM was never actually cleared.
