Question about Televison & Video
I repaired my E85 motherbroard and now it will not let me record to the hd without formating it. I ok'd it to format because there was nothing important on there when it died. It formats (~3 mins) and then goes though the whole process of asking ne to format it when i try recording to it. The unit works fine other wise. Steve

I kept formatting DVD's until I got the unit to work. Mainly, it was some DVD's I had earlier problems formatting. I tried two new DVD's (Maxell DVD-RW) and they worked thus far. I truly think the unit needs to be taken to authorized service center for evaluation or minor maintenance. My suggestion is to verify the DVD's will work with unit. Try to use better quality ones like TDK or Maxell. Thanks for responding to my problem. If I have others, I will contact you.

SOURCE: reformating the hard drive
just simply use a ordinary XP cd installer and you will have an option to delete all partitions and reformat the HDD (not quickformat). But normally errors like what you got there is caused by Bad cd or cd drive.
Hope this helps.

I have heard from at least three others that when they did there last update that there system got messed up luckly mine is fine but what should they do and what should I do if it happens to me? as one of them informed me that everything was fine at first but the next day the system went bad, they can't even play there games, after speaking to someone at game stop they said that this is something that has been going on to contact sony, after that it was informed to me that sony tec said they would have to send it back and pay 165.00.. why if the update is what corrupted the system can this be possible? I need answers!!!

usually hard drive failure boils down to files not opening succesfully, or a random internal failure, not a physical issue with the hard drive, however because dish network repairs these issues on a large scale the fix is to wipe the software and start over which means all recordings are lost, unfortunately recovering these recordings is basically impossible... if you often record things which are imperative to your business i would suggest getting a 622/722 dvr which will allow you to download these recordings to an external hard drive via usb, you will have unlimited use uploading and downloading programs for a one time fee of about 40$
