Question about Sharp Aquos LC-37G4U 37 in. HD-Ready LCD Television
My over 4-year old 26-inch Sharp LCD LC-26GA4U has worked just fine all these years except for the audio which has always been weak and needed to be turned up almost all the way.
Now I'm hearing "ocean" sound in the background.
I have read from you letters that pulling out cables in the back and putting them back on (sort of rebooting it) may work. Then there are letters that say the problem got worse (audio dissappeared completely) after rebooting.
Before I start pulling........... is there a NO don't do it??

The ocean sound is 'noise' which means a bad connection. Best thing is to unplug & plug back in all cinch & scart etc cables, while turned off, of course. do this a few times for each cable, then turn it on.
Sometimes it is the headphone jack, have you used it recently?
Try plugging & unplugging the headphones quickly a few times, that normally solves the problem. If you still have a problem then it's internal and the TV needs looking at.

Please be aware that this a big problem on this unit. The insulator material used by sharp to between the IC's on the AV board both on top of the boards and underneath the the AV pcb is failing. This insulator is mounted to the IC and under the metal heat sinc. Remove the back and pull the AV Board out of the unit. Use zylene or alcohol and clean all of the grey insulator from between the pins on the ic and order the replacement insulators from Sharp. Most times this will correct the no sound problem. Sometimes this has also damaged the AV pcb and it will have to be replaced. The parts that should be replaced come in a kit with sharp part # PSPKIT663WHZZ. If the kit is not available the 2 parts needed are PSPAZA663WJKZ AND PRDARA216WJFW.

My 32D40U would turn on for 5-10 seconds (Please Wait would appear) and the screen would go black. Sound Normal. It would also sometimes do this after running 5-10 minutes. I read somewhere that the inverter board would come loose and lose proper ground. I took the set apart, removed the board, and cleaned up the grounding points. I reassembled using some copper paste on the ground points and LockTite on the screws. I used some contact cleaner on all the connectors going to the board. I noticed two cables that are covered with copper shield tape where too tight at their connectors and repositioned the tape to give them some slack. The problem hasn't occurred since the fix.

i had the same problem lc26d4u. called sharp and they gave me a place to send it to . cost me 260.00 estimate to fix tv. have not heard from them since. but heard they may have sent the tv to the manufacturer. same sound board problem

I believe your TV needs the latest version software upgrade. The current software may have been corrupted.
There is a USB service port on the side of your TV. You can download the software to a USB memory stick at sharpusa.com then upgrade your TV from the service port.
If any problems doing this, call 1-800-BE-SHARP and they will run through the procedure.
