Disc not spinning
Hi I have took apart my PS2 console to clean out the dust after I could not get the console to read disc I have notice that the disc was not spining it only did about a 1/4 of a turn at a time I looked on the internet but the only thing that they had was disc errror which is not my problem, it does not spin when I put in a disc if you can help me please email me at steve_87@hotmail.com TY

- Thank you but i do not understand,do I have to buy something? Or could it be an adjustment on the console? On the PS2 SCPH-30001 R next to the laser eye in front of the console that spins the disc which is not spining is what I have to replace?Apr 14, 2007
- What does the laser have to do that the round disc is not spinning? If I keep hitting the button to open and close the tray about 10-15 times it will start reading the disc,and then I can play the game could the it still be the laser or something else? TYApr 17, 2007

- ps2 turns on and goes straight to browser menu.if i restart the system with the game or dvd in it ,it says reading disc then says "unable to read disc". the game fell about 1 1/2 feet when someone tripped over the cord and pulled it off the table it was sitting on.is there something i can do to fix this.oh and the disc only spins about 15 seconds - carla1scorpFeb 27, 2009

Hello,
please check the model of the optical unit and purchase the new (original) one. Then you can change the optical taking care that mechanical alignment should stay the same as before replacement.

here is the answer to your last comment. Inside the PS2 there are some sensors (micro swtich) that sense the position of the lift (in or out). Cleaning or replacing them as well as the belt that drives the lift can solve your problem

- Yes, actually laser is to be replaced. But if you are not certain in your skils please ask someone to do this for you. One can not adjust when there is a broken part - that is a general rule.Best regards,

DISC ONLY SPINS FOR A 1/2 MINUTE, MESSAGE ON SCREEN SAYS CANNOT READ DISC AND MENU STAYS IN BROWSER MENU MODE.

i've tried all my games and it only spins for a few seconds and stops spinning.the console says "disc could not be read".
