I bought this DELL D600 about 3 years ago for my fiancee, now my wife of 1 year, and had a lot of problems with this models notorious power connector debaccle, asked amny questions at the time and even posted attempts at solutions, but never found oen that worked. finally in July I bought a motherboard, which corrected that seemingly much simpler problem, but had a terrible time connecting to the internet finally solved that after downloading around ten drivrs for the wireless G card, and connected @54Mbps, very slow, so bought a Broadcom dual band N300 card, and great wireless card that connects at 130 Mbps, but apparantly an orphan, that Broadcom disowned as soon as they made it. The 25th driver i guessed at downladed and installed got it up and running, and very fast too. I have no current major problem with this computer at present just wanted to add it because it has difficult problems often, and solutions are a long time comming
It is HIGHLY doubtful that your internet speed is faster than 54Mbps, and would be little difference in performance.....
Especially given that most webmasters throttle their websites to around 3Mbps. If the website your're trying to load is only sending it @ 3Mbps, then both cards should load it similarly.
Your difference is FAR more likely in the DRIVER(s) being used, (or attempted, but not properly removed.)

Even if it's a new Dell, you may need to update either the drivers for the wireless card or the BIOS.
Also, verify which protocol your Dell is set to use (i.e. 802.11g, 802.11b, auto-select, etc.). Dell may have fixed to to a slower protocol for compatibility.

First go into your device manager and make sure that your wireless card is being recognized in there. If it is then we need to make sure the two wires are conected to the card. You can do that by going inside of the door on the bottom of the laptop which can be located here:
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/latd520/en/sm_en/cards.htm#wp1015787
Make sure the white and black wire are conncted firmly. They should snap into place if they are loose.
Once you verify that your wireless card is connected properly then you can go thru these directions to make sure you can connect to your wireless network:

SOURCE: My screen is flickering too, but i found intresting response here
Try reseating the lcd cables on the lcd and to the motheboard as well.
Also if you want to verify if its a power problem with your wireless card causing the screen to flicker, remove the card completely and see if the flickering stops. If it does then its bad and the wireless card needs to be replaced. Remember that the wires for your wireless card comes from the LCD so it could quite possibly be a wiring problem as well, make sure there are no breaks in the wires that are being exposed cause that could cause problems.
