Question about D-Link AirPlus Xtreme G DI-624 Wireless Router (DI624RE)

2 Answers

Router Security I wish to put a password on my wireless router so that neighbours can not use my Internet service. I changed the Admin password in the Advanced Setup. However, I note that other devices in my home can still hook up to our wireless service. i.e. Wii, Ipod and daughters laptop. How do I require all users to have a password or that I authorize links.? thanks

Did you enable encryption? like WEP or WPA?
Maybe try that.. Then you'll have to put the username and password into the laptop, wii and ipod every time they want to connect to your router..

Here is a site with the manual. see pages 14-15
http://www.scribd.com/doc/2091490/DI624-manual

Once you set it and someone wants/needs to get on your network, you will have to provide them the encryption key.
Click on this link or copy and paste the complete link into your browser.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

To be more specific, type 192.168.0.1 into your internet url box, and put in your password, then go to wireless settings, then security, then enable either 128-bit wep or wpa encryption and press 'Apply' or similar.
Hope this helps

FORGOT MY PASSWORD TO GETON wifi

Wireless or Wi-Fi Internet is convenient because it allows many people who have laptops to connect to the Web anywhere within their homes or businesses.
The downside to wireless is that anyone with a laptop or a smartphone within a short distance of a router can access it.
That is why it is often password-protected.
Some Internet service providers let you choose a password that you can remember, while others will give you a very long, case-sensitive code.
If you lose or forget your password, you can usually get it from your modem or your Internet service provider.

Look on your modem.
This is the box that your Internet service provider gave you when your Internet service was installed.
Some Internet Service providers put your wireless password directly on the box along with your user-name.
A modem may or may not be separate from a router, which sends out the wireless signals.
If you have two boxes and are unsure which is which, look at both.
Call your Internet service provider if you cannot find a password on the modem.
You can also try online customer service through your service provider's website if you are able to get Internet access apart from your wireless connection.
Talk to a customer service representive and ask to retrieve your password.
You may be required to change it.
Be prepared to provide security information that the service provider has on file, such as your Social Security number, phone number, address or another personal security question.

also reset your password
If a password is forgotten or lost, the password can be recovered or reset by accessing the router's Web-based settings menu.
Most wireless routers also have a reset button, which is capable of returning the router to its default settings which includes resetting the password.

Connect to your Wi-Fi or attach your computer directly to the router with an Ethernet cable.
Open your Web browser.
Enter the default address of your router.
The default address is listed in your user manual or on the product website.
Linksys and 3Com routers typically use "192.168.1.1" while Netgear routers use "192.168.0.1."

Enter your username and password. Many routers use "admin" for the username and password by default.

Locate the wireless security settings. Disable the wireless security.
Reset to Factory Defaults
Locate the reset button on your router.
Typically the reset button is a small indented hole on the back of the device.

Insert a long thin object such as a paperclip and hold down the reset button for 30 seconds to revert the router to its factory default settings.

Locate the wireless security settings and add security as necessary.

My router is working fine. My network is unsecured and I am having some of my neighbours kids tap into my internet connection. My question is how do I program my router to be secured so that I do not...

  1. Go to the router administration page - Open a browser window (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc.) and enter the URL "http://192.168.1.1" and hit ENTER
  2. The use the password "admin" without a username and you should be able to get in (unless, of course, you have changed it in the past)
  3. Change the password, click on "Administration" and enter a new password into Router Password, and again into the box below it.
  4. I would suggest changing some of the settings at this point to make it more secure, but after that click the Save Settings button at the bottom of the page (at this point the router will restart)
  5. After you change the admin password (Steps 1 thru 3) follow steps 1 and 2 to get back into the Administration page, and remember to use the new password you set up in step 3
  6. Along the top of the screen you will see a list of "tabs" labeled, "Setup", "Wireless","Security", etc.- click on "Wireless"
  7. Right below where you clicked on "Wireless" you should now see another set of "tabs" - "Basic Wireless Settings", "Wireless Security", "Wireless MAC Filter", and "Advanced Wireless Settings"
  8. Click on "Wireless Security"
  9. In the "Security Mode" drop down box, select WPA2 Personal
  10. In "Encryption" drop down box, select "AES"
  11. In "Passphrase" text box, enter a phrase you can remember as you will need this to connect other computers to the network. Make sure it is long and should be a combination of letters and special characters
  12. Click Save Settings button
  13. Now your wireless network is secure - but anything using the wireless connection will require you to enter the Passphrase (created in step 11) to connect to the network. You should only have to enter it once per computer.
  14. If you want, you can change your wireless network "Name" (called SSID) by going to the "Basic Wireless Settings" and click Manual - change the Network Name to something you can identify.

you need to open internet explorer while you are connected to the router.

then type in the address bar

192.168.0.1 and press enter.. it will ask you for the ::
Default Username: Admin

Then click on the setting for wireless security, choose a security type wep, or wpa, and create a password..

then save the password, and exit internet explorer,

now you will have to reconnect to the router, and it will ask you for the new password.. Now you network is secure and no one can log on unless they have the password.

I am setting up a Linksys Wireless G Router and can't find how to set up a password

You can get to the router settings menu by entering 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1. in internet explorer. It should ask for a password and default is usually "admin". Once you are in the settings for the router you can configure the security settings for WEP. When you activate it you will create a password that all computers on the wireless network will use to connect to the router.
