This can be done without taking anything apart or removing anything except the lid switch.

Take the two screws out that holds the lid switch and let it drop into your hand. You may have to pull a little if it doesn't drop down on it's own. You may also have to push the tub over to get to the lid switch if you have big hands.

How do I acces the lid switch on my kenmore washer

The following link explains step-by-step how to access and/or replace the lid switch on a Kenmore top loader:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385198-replacing_lid_switch

Most lid switches are located under the right hand side of the top panel. Some, are located adjacent to either lid hinge. In any case, you still need to remove the washer exterior case to access it. The switch is held in place with a couple of mounting screws with a ground wire attached. This is a very simple repair, but if you experience any difficutlies please let me know. I hop this helps you.

I need to replace the lid switch on my Kenmore 110.20702990 Washer. I have the new switch. The lid does not "pop" off. How do I get to the wireing area where I must plug in the new switch?

This is a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/getModel!retrieve.pd?pop=true&modelNumber=110.20702990

See the sections on the top and cabinet and the control panel.

Also see the following on how to access the control panel. You don't need to go through the rest of the document to pull clutch, transmission etc.

Do I have to replace lid switch on Kenmore washer or I can just short the wires? Thank you

you should replace the lid switch if it's broken - if you do clip the wires and tie them together, just remember that the machine won't stop when the lid is raised. it could be dangerous when spinning

The lid switch is ususlly the first to go. Luckily, it is easy to replace. To test the washer, connect the lid switch wires together. If the washer spins, you need to replace the switch.

The lid switch has failed. To replace lid switch;
REMOVE POWER, lift the console by removing the trim on either side. Grasp the top of the trim and pull forward to expose a screw. Remove both screws and lift console.

1. You will find a lid switch connector (white in color). Unplug the switch from the connector.

2. There will be two brass colored clips. Place a flat blade screwdriver straight down into the opening on top of the washer and into the groove of the clip. Push the screwdriver down and away from you and the clip will release.

3. Open the lid of the washer and place your hand under the front rim of the opening (DO NOT grab the wash tub). Tilt and slide cabinet forward to remove.

The lid switch can now be accessed and replaced.

Need to change the lid switch on a kenmore series 90 top load washer

To access the lid switch, REMOVE POWER, lift the console by one of three ways.
1. Look in the back of the console, in each corner there will be a screw, unscrew until the console can be pushed forward.
2. The trim on either side can be pried off from the top, grasp and pull forward to expose to expose a screw.
3. insert a putty knife under each corner, push to release a latch. With console lifted:

You can replace the switch, it appears, without lifting the lid. I've ordered the repair manual (LIT4314044) but I can feel the connector and wires. It appears that the lid switch can be replaced without taking anything apart. There does appear to be a screw on the back that holds the ground in place.

First thing is to remove the 2 screws from the console, they may be hidden in the front or bacl of console. After removing screws, lightly push the base of the console towards the front of the washer and pick up. This will expose your lid switch connection. Using a jumper wire, jump out the black and white wires then try advancing your washer into spin/drain. The culprit will usually be the lid switch assy.
