I have the same problem with a fellowes sb-15c. I have ensured that the little sensors are free and clear, and they are clean. The "bin full" indicator light still comes on even if i turn the power off and on again and don't use the shredder. I have a feeling the sensors are not sensing correctly, but I don't know what they do, exactly. They are 2 LEDs, I think, maybe infrared LEDs, that are pointed toward each other. They are about 7 or 8 inches apart. Between them is a plastic piece mounted that kinda swings freely. I imagine that when the bin gets full the plastic piece is pushed up by the piling paper in between the 2 LEDs and cuts off the signal going between them. That's all I can figure out by just looking at it. Does anyone know how to fix it (cheaply)?

I have the same problem with a fellowes sb-15c. I have cleaned it out, made sure all paper is gone, made sure there is nothing on the little sensors on the bottom of the shredder. But a few seconds after I turn the shredder on, the "bin full" indicator is tripped, and the shredder will not operate. If I power it off and power it back on, I can get some paper through, but after that no more. The little sensors appear to be LEDs, maybe the infrared type. They are mounted about 7 or 8 inches apart, oriented so their tops point toward each other. There is a plastic flap that swings in between them. If the bin gets full, I imagine this flap is pushed up by the piling paper and blocks the signal going between the sensors. But there is nothing between these sensors, and it still tells me the bin is full. Does anyone know a workaround or a cheap fix?

I called the toll free number for Fellowes Help Line, 800.955.0959, and spoke to John who was most familiar with the SB-15c. I indicated that the "bin full" LED was bad (actually the transmit bulb). After John ascertained that I had indeed cleaned the bulbs, he made available a replacement part, MasterCard or VISA required. Replacement of these bulbs is not for everyone. A level of technical ability and some tools will be required.

I have never had this level of technical support available on the first call. Kudos for Fellowes.

Does it still shred? I have the same issue but it seems like more than just a light problem because it stops completely. Does yours?

We have a Fellows Pwoershred 2200SC that keeps showing the full bin light even when it's empty. Tried cleaning the eye near the feed area with canned air as per recommendation by a shredder maintence...

There are also sensors under the shredder head to indicate when the bin is full. You either have a defective sensors or a dirty one (clean with air).

I can't get the door open do empty the shredding

You have probably got the bin so full it is stuck/jammed full of paper and you now can't remove it...this is a "consumer" model machine and to keep cost low they do not provide a "bag-full" light on the panel...you should regularly empty the bin so that the shredded paper does not totally jam the bin and in extreme cases then get caught back up into the cutting machanism and blow the pcb inside the machine...check your "users" instructions to remove the bin.

Work the bin out a little at a time to get the paper out.

The empty basket light stays on all the time

Try cleaning the bin full sensors. located on both sides of your machine, inside the bin, under the cutter head. If that does not solve problem, you need to replace bin full sensors.

If this is actually an SB-15C I posted a solution elsewhere and will repeat it:

Staples SPL-1506X Shredder Issue

I had the same problem. I have a solution but I do not recommend this unless you have technical experience with repairing electrical appliances. I took the back cover of the main shredder unit to expose the wiring (there are 7 screws in total). The bin full sensor has a blue, green, and red connected to it. I clipped the blue wire to defeat the Bin Full error. You can look through the plastic window to check that the bin is full.
