As a general rule, this type of problem is usually software (a particular kind for burners called "firmware", or corrective programs or manual manipulation of entries in the Registry which gets wrong entries or commands get erased that link the CD to the burning process).
1. If you didn't install this USB connected diveive using a disk or with the proper firmware, here's the link to Acer Support's Home page. I can't fins the burner there so I can't direct you to the proper firmware download.
2. Below are 2 links to Automated Microsoft Fixit Wizards that you can run which have fixed your issue for many of my clients. After that, the only possibility left is that some part of the hardware in your burner is physically damaged or out of alignment.
The second download may seem like a strange choice, but it fixes problems you would never expect it could.
