Hmm I was not sure where exactly to post this but here goes.
Hi I had the same problem a month ago. Though I do have Ubuntu 9.04 rc installed as main OS. It shut down instantly and completely while playing Civilisation 4 under Winblows. Mine is under warranty, so not a
problem. But it turns out they had to replace the mother board and Nvidia video card. When it came back. It worked but I guess they didn't
check the battery because it is cooked also. They are sending out a
replacement. If you have another Acer you might want to try the battery
in it first (if it is same size and type, of course ) That way you can
fix everything at once. Just my 3 cents worth.
i,d suggest your problem, is with either the Graphics card. Or your Memory is very Low. I,d go 512 meg RAM ( minimum ) Go To 256 Meg ( AGP Or PCI-e Card ) minimum.
Install Direct X 9 Or 10 if the new card supports It.
Also check The Speed of the Memory.
Final solution, is to free up some items From The start-Menu.
The minimum hardware requirement for Test Drive Unlimited are:
> Pentium 4 2.4Ghz or higher processor > 1 GB of RAM > a 256MB Graphics card (GeForce 6600GT or better) > 8 GB of hard disk space and it runs only on the windows platform. Does your PC meet these requirements? If it does, then, I suggest that you re-install your graphics card's drivers.
Using pdanet from June software you can use phone as modem..with laptop. June software is $29 one time (make sure you get the windows mobile software if you have a mogul) or sprint will charge you $15 a month. Also with june software make sure you have unlimited data plan. Ive been using june software for about 4+ yrs.....no problems.
One thing you might want to try is seeing if there is an update to the graphics card driver. Check with Nvidia for an updated one. Sometimes that will allow the DirectX to load up and sometime the current DirectX will be loaded up in the driver update.
If you've upgraded from xp or another earlier version of Windows, you cannot do a recovery. Recovery only works on recovering the present system. If you have upgraded I would suggest saving off all your important files to a DVD, flash drive or onto another partition and then format and reinstall xp or whatever you had before.
Is the disk a dvd disk or and actual CD.
DVD's will not play on a CD drive and visa versa.
more so, problem might be your video settings are set wrong, or your video card and or PC processor does not support this game.
As always read the instructions on the game and it's support properties BEFORE you buy it.
Most software is not returnable once the shrinkwrap is broken.
