Verizon FIOS remote doesn't work when Philips LCD TV swiched on

I just had Verizon FIOS installed in my house but the techs could not get the Verizon remote to talk their verizon HD Set Top Box when my Philips LCD HDTV was swiched on.
If the TV is off the FIOS remote will control the Verizon HD Set Top Box just fine. But when the Philips LCD HDTV is switched on, the FIOS remote will not control the Verizon HD Set Top Box anymore. The FIOS remote will control the Philips HDTV just fine.
Has anyone got a solution for this?

I have reprogrammed the remote for my particular TV (Philips LCD 42PFL7403D/F7) and also programmed a Universal remote - my problem is still not solved - the remote does not control the set top box when the TV is on. I think it must be something to do with the Philips TV having HDMI CEC? The TV seems to try to control the set top box.

I have done as suggested by cmptrlink but the problem is always the same - if the TV is off then the remote controls the set top box just fine. If the TV is switched on then the remote doesn't have any control of the set top box - no communication. However the remote DOES continue to change the volume, mute, off-on control of the TV. Is this anything to do with HDMI CEC ability that the TV has?

Reply to Benimur - this model of Philips LCD TV does not have any AmbiLight back lighting capability that you say might be the problem.

It sounds like the box has the same frequency as the tv. I would call the tech and see if you can change the frequency.

Wow that is wierd, the only thing I can think it could be is some kind of electrical interference from the tv, try moving the box farther away from the tv then it is now and see if the problem continues or not.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

A remote possibility, electrical/RF interference. The Philips LCD HDTV uses inverters to power the backlights. The inverter produces relatively high voltage at high frequency for the CCF (cold cathode florescent) lamps/backlight. It is possible that this HV/HF interfere with the reception of the Verizon HD Set Top Box remote command. Pls try relocating the Verizon HD Set Top Boxas far away as physically possible from the Philips LCD HDTV.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

    Appreciate the info and postback.

Still perhaps you could give it a try? Move/relocate the Verizon HD Set Top Boxas far away as physically possible from the Philips LCD HDTV, even temporarily. and try again the remote.

    Cheers.

If none of the codes worked, try the following procedure. (As before, we willuse the example of a TV. For other devices, use the appropriate Device Keyinstead of the TV key, in steps 2 and 3.)1. Turn on your TV. 2. Press and hold the TVkey.3. While holding down the TVkey, press the OKkey.4. Release both keys. The Device Keys will blink twice.5. Press 9- 2- 2. 6. Point the remote at the TV.7. Press   play/pause button     . 8. Press    forward button    . Every time you press  forward button       , the remote sends out a newpower-off command to the TV. Keep pressing    forward button      until the TV turnsoff. (You can press  rewind button      to go back.)9. When the TV turns off, you have found the right code. Press OKtostore this code. There are over 200 TV and DVD codes. The most common codes are tried first, but you may still need to press   forward button       over 200 times to find theright code. If you reach the end of the list of codes, the entire remote willflash twice and return to normal operation. You can exit programming at anytime by pressingExit.

Try the following codes. I know you stated that you were given codes so ignore any that you already have tried:

Verizon FIOS
Vizio 0891, 0912,1783

Alternative Codes
1758, 0178, 1756, 0128, 0117, 1017, 1078, 0030, 0056, 0205, 1292, 0057

Philips TV HDMI CEC EasyLink tries to control Cable set top box

I finally found a fix to this! YAY. I thought I might have to return the TV. I have the Phillips 42PFL5603D, but should work for other models.

On the TV press menu picture settings---picture---dynamic contrast (turn off) AND active control, turn off
If you have Comcast Moto box: on the Cable box go menu--->setup--->cablebox set up---RF BYbass set to ON
If you have a non-Comcast Moto Box, I'm sure there is an RF bypass setting in the menu. You'll just have to look for it. Another fix was close saying to only turn of the active control, but it took all 3 of these for it to work consistently. The latter let it work for all of 30 seconds.

NEED REMOTE CODE

Go on the Verizon website and request a new remote, the Verizon P265 Remote model. It will have all the newest firmware and it should have the code. I know this because I had a TCL 32" TV and the code wasn't on my old Philips RC 1445302 model. TV and new remote are "talking" just fine now. Verizon won't even want the old one back.

FIOS remote with Olevia 532B12

I just got FIOS and had an Olevia 237 TV. Tried the LG, Phillips, RCA and Yamaha codes, no luck so I tried this:

- press and hold TV key
- still holding TV key, press the OK key and release both, device keys blink
- press 922
- point remote at TV and press play button
- press next button (two arrows pointing to right) about 325 times until the TV goes off.

Remote controls power, volume, input, and aspect.
