Question about Sears Craftsman LiftMaster Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Wireless Keypad Model 976LM Security+

Opener operates on its own sometimes

Hi. I have a craftsman 1/2 that's about 15 years old. On a couple occasions it started operating on its own. Nobody was in the garage at the time and so nothing got pushed. I also had it not function at all recently. My daughter had just come home from work and opened the garage door without a problem and closed it behind her. Shortly after that we needed to go back out through the garage. Well the opener wouldn't operate. Thought maybe there might be a problem with the master control and so I took the remote out of my truck and tried that. Still didn't work. We went out through the front door and did what we needed outside. As we got ready to go back inside my daughter decided to try the remote in her car. Which was parked outside the garage at the time. Well the opener started working. I'd appreciate any help that you can give me.

Maybe a short in wall wiring is causing motor to overheat and shut down for 15 minutes. try disconnecting wiring to wall pushbuttons and see what happens.

Door opens fully and then slips down a few inches then opens again and slips down again

The door is too heavy for the operator most likely. Check the door to see if you need new, or adjusted springs. However, I am guessing you may just have a 15+ year old operator that may have a slipping belt. If it is that old, you should probably replace the unit. You can get another belt, and check the "up" sensitivity. It may need to be increased.

1/2 HP Craftsman Garage Door Opener works but lights don't

I think you are saying that normal incandescent bulbs do not work. If that is correct you should unplug the unit and using a small screwdriver reach into the socket and pull out slightly on the center contact.

Craftsman opener, 16 years old, want move, all lights are working

Remove and check the logic board for missing or burnt traces. Check closely around the small transformer. Be sure to unplug the unit before you do this.

Garrage door opener won't open all the way and sometimes it won't close also

If the door runs fine then check the up force and down force on your operator (the box that hangs from the ceiling). If the light(s) on your operator go from front and/or back, the force adjustment screw is on the back of the operator. If the lights are on the sides of the operator then the force adjustment screw is on the right side (looking from the back of the operator and facing the garage door). Turn the light blue adjustment screw with the up/down arrow to a higher number.

CHAMBERLAIN WILL NOT RESPOND TO REMOTES FROM STREET.

Sounds like "cross talk" interfence from the other operator. You can get a plugin external reciever that should work with your current remotes. Try to get as much distance as you can between the working operator and the new reciever.

Remotes won't work

Sounds like a frequency issue. A remote work like the radio in your where each station is on a different frequency. Some signal is interfering with you frequency (390Mhz) You could try another brand external receiver with new remotes or with that old of an operator you might just think about replacing the operator (don't go with "Wayne Dalton")
