Question about Mitsubishi WS-55805 55" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

First looked concave Now its dead

My set is 7 years old and worked fine the other day I turned it on and the picture looked bowed out like it was bulging out but had sound and then I turned it off and back on.The relay clicks and the little green power lite comes on but no picture or sound.....may be protection mode? There is a lot of dust in tnside and I sorta tapped on things in with power off but the set does not do anything and does not respond to the remote even power on button of remote.only thing works is the power button on the set.Oh yes with power on I hear a slight low pulsating hum. Any thoughts Thanks Zap

I have the same problem with a 61uwx10b. I

the ics could have been defective, or maybe you missed a resistor or something. the ics could short out and cause the tv to totally shutdown if dead shorted, as some of these have no fuses. I would doublecheck all your solder connections and make sure nothing is shorted out and look for other bad resistors. here is my tutorial if this helps
Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Picture was fine, then lines diagonally, now light

Projection sets have two very common problems outlined below.

The first common problem is convergence

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. The TV can also shut down when the convergence starts to fail.

Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith, RCA and others.

You can more info and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from TV Repair Kits using the link at the end of this article.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped or bowed
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2 - Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

Same situation, the tv picture is bowed on all edges

That is a convergence problem. You can get complete parts and instructiosn for this fix from They put together a kit for this. I used them for a convergence problem recently and they helped me fix my set.

Picture in concave on all sides and blue and red are off

The shape of the picture indicates that the convergence circuit is not working properly. Generally speaking this occurs without making any sound at all. The popping you heard may have been a capacitor in the power supply. If the power line effected supplied the convergence circuit, repairing the supply should return the set to normal. If not, then the convergence ICs may be faulty. If you can solder, and are confortable working inside the set where potentially dangerous high voltages exist (even when unplugged), you may be able to repeir this yourself.

Let me know and I'll provide additional details and instructions.

Hitachi 61SDX01B picture...

Sounds like the blue convergence circuit still not working.

Assuming both IC's are good, look for open soldered-in pico fuse.

Once bowing problem is solved, then convergence should adjust ok.
