Question about GE JEM31 Microwave Oven

1 Answer

No heat My GE JEM31 microwave (manufactured in NOV 2003) is not heating anything. The light goes on, the turntable moves, but no heat. It doesn't seem to be making any strange noises. Is this something I can fix? Or do I need to get service?

Purchased JEM31 Nov 2006. Unit manufactured Aug 2006. Never had a problem until unit stopped heating. Received error while baking potato using SENSOR COOKING pad. Turntable oK. Oven light oK. Placed glass of water on turntable for two minutes using TIME COOK pad and received SENSOR ERROR. There was no heat in both attempts.

It is most likely a door switch, or a magnetron with a loose connection or a failing magnetron. If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info (as well as a text file which helps in diagnosing and repairing door switch problems) at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number (without the suffix) here: http://tinyurl.com/gv383 If you still need help, please write back letting us know what you checked and what you found.

The turntable and the magnetron are two separate items and one should not impact the other. Since the other items are working it is doubtful that the fuse is bad. Also you need to know that the proper way to work on a microwave requires the use of special equipment to check for microwave leakage, it is not recommended to service them yourself.

It's probably the magnetron which some companies provide an 8 year warranty on for parts but you'd be responsible for labor. Unless you have an extended warranty, it's probably cheaper to buy a new one than to repair this one. I tried to look up your model number but doesn't seem accurate. Do a little research, there could be a known defect and the company may help even though it's out of warranty.

Jem31 no heat

The problem is in the magnetron or the inverter board if under 7 years old. Cost to repair will be equal if not more than a new microwave oven.

GE Profile PVM2070SM3SS. Stuck in "Demo Mode" Turntable moves, light goes on, no heat. Main keyboard changed 3 months ago.

This may seem crazy... But, I had the same problem, and the only thing that works is to put the exhaust fan on, then microwave. Only then will it actually heat. Now the vent button just broke and pushed in. Ahhhhh
