Microsoft Money 2007 shuts down after opening

When I open Money 2007 it will generate a window saying it has to shut down due to some unspecified error. I downloaded a trial version of 2009 Money Plus and after a couple of weeks it is doing the same thing?
I have a Dell 700m Inspiron laptop and use Windows XP.

    Ziraffa:

Thanks for the extensive information. The dll is not the problem. After talking with MS Support for over 2 hours we have not been able to fix this. Appears that the backup file is corrupted and repair attempts don't seem to work. I need a solution that might fix the corrupted file.

Hi Drdata889,

If you haven't already been to Microsoft support, then follow the instructions below:

This issue may occur if any of the following conditions is true:

  • The installation of the System Pack was canceled.
  • You did not let Microsoft Internet Explorer to install.
  • If third-party software un-registers a very important Microsoft Money component. Currently, SnapStream Personal Video Station (PVS) software and Cellar! software may cause this issue.
To resolve:

Click Start, click Run, type regsvr32 "c:\windows\system32\msxml3.dll" in the Open box, and then press ENTER.

Note On Microsoft Windows 2000-based computers, type regsvr32 "c:\winnt\system32\msxml3.dll" in the Open box.

Note If you receive the "LoadLibrary(msxml3.dll) failed - The specified module could not be found" error message, follow these steps:
  1. Visit the following Microsoft Web site: http://download.microsoft.com/download/xml/SP/3.20/w9x2kmexp/en-us/msxml3sp2cab.exe (http://download.microsoft.com/download/xml/sp/3.20/w9x2kmexp/en-us/msxml3sp2cab.exe)
  2. Click Open, and then click Yes to accept the License Agreement.
  3. Click Browse, click Desktop, and then click OK two times.
  4. On the desktop, double-click the msxml3.cab file, right-click the msxml3.dll file, and then click Extract.
  5. In the Select a Destination dialog box, click the C:\WINDOWS\System32 folder, and then click Extract.

Note On a Windows 2000-based computer, click the C:\Winnt\System32 folder.
  6. Click Start, click Run, type regsvr32 msxml3.dll in the Open box, and then press ENTER.
Note In the unlikely event that these steps do not resolve the issue, repeat step 6 three times. Every time, substitute Msxml3.dll in step 6 with the following files:
  • Msxml3a.dll
  • Msxml3r.dll
  • Msxmlr.dll

Download and install the latest version of MDAC loadTOCNode(2, 'resolution'); To upgrade to latest version of the Microsoft Data Access Components, follow these steps:
  1. Download and install the latest version of MDAC. To do this, visit the following MSDN Web site: http://msdn.microsoft.com/data/Default.aspx (http://msdn.microsoft.com/data/Default.aspx)
  2. Install Money.
If you still experience this issue, and you are running Microsoft Money 2002, Money 2003, or Money 2004 use the following additional methods.
Reinstall the Microsoft Money System Pack loadTOCNode(2, 'resolution');
  1. Insert the Microsoft Money installation CD into the CD drive or the DVD drive. Hold down SHIFT to prevent the installation screen from appearing.
  2. Open the installation file. To do this in Windows Vista, click Start
, type D:\syspack.msi in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.

To open the installation file in Microsoft Windows XP and earlier versions, click Start, click Run, and then type D:\syspack.msi in the Open box. In this example, D:\ is the drive letter of the CD drive.
  3. Click OK.
  4. Follow the prompts for the installation process.
If the previous steps do not help, see the "Remove and reinstall the Money System Pack" section.
Remove and reinstall the Money System Pack loadTOCNode(2, 'resolution'); Note Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.
  1. Locate Microsoft Money System Pack in the list of installed programs. To locate Microsoft Money System Pack in the list of installed programs in Windows Vista, open the Programs and Features item in Control Panel. To do this, click Start
, type appwiz.cpl in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.

To locate Microsoft Money System Pack in the list of installed programs in Windows XP, click Start, click Run, type appwiz.cpl, and then click OK.
  2. In Windows Vista, click Microsoft Money System Pack, and then click Uninstall.

In Windows XP and earlier versions, click Microsoft Money System Pack, and then click Remove.
  3. Follow the steps for the removal process.
  4. Repeat the steps in the "Reinstall the Microsoft Money System Pack" section.
Hope this is of some use :)
Season's Greetings!

Change the Sleep Button on the Start Menu to Shut Down

Want to shut down Vista with one click, instead of sleep.

Open Power Options in Control Panel

On the current plan your computer is running, click change plan settings

It will open Edit Plan Settings, find Change Advanced Power Settings and click on it.

Power Options will open, find the expandable tab that says Power Buttons and Lid, expand it.

Expand the tab that says Start Menu Power Button.

If you are running a laptop there will be two options, one for On Battery and one for Plugged in, click on the word sleep to open a pull down menu.

Click on the arrow, than Shut Down.

Click Apply and than okay. Close all Windows, Shut Down should be on the start menu instead of sleep

Laptop will not shut of after closing the lid

In Windows XP, Open Control Panel, Power Options, set to High Performance, set Sleep and Hibernate to no/never, set what to do when lid is closed. Use this procedure: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-xp/help/setup/configure-power-management It's a good idea to Shut down at Start Menu and unplug when not in use to prevent damage due to power surges, and IF the battery malfunctions, prevent a fire hazzard.

You could try and repair office by going into add/remove programs if it's XP, or programs and features if its vista.

Both are found in control panel.

Find your office 2003 line in add/remove programs, click uninstall, and you should get a repair option. YOu will probably need the disk to repair it.

Corrupted Money backup files

There are a few things you can do. Manually open up the *.mbf file, does it open?
If it doesn't, the file type *.mbf may not be associated to Money 2007 anymore. Very common.
If the file becomes too large they also become corrupted. It may be possible to export the *.mbf file to Microsoft Excel. Make sure you create a copy of the file before manipulating it.

Actually.... if you have a system administrator. They should have a back up tape, you should already have a path to the file you can give them. They can do a backup and restore of a day or two ago and see if that mbf file was not corrupted as well.

Let me know if I can be of anymore help =)

Good luck!

Personal Data File did not close properly

Hope this solves it for you! Here's the official word from Microsoft:
If you receive one or more of these error messages, you may experience performance issues until Outlook finishes the reconciliation process for the .ost file or for the .pst file. The following gear icon is displayed in the status bar while Outlook checks the data file in the background: Collapse this imageExpand this imageol2007gearicon.jpg When this icon disappears, the .pst file or the .ost file is reconciled. If you exit Outlook while the gear icon is present, reconciliation must restart the next time that you run Outlook. We recommend that you leave Outlook running until the gear icon disappears before you exit Outlook.

An incorrectly shut down .ost file or .pst file may occur for one of the following reasons:
  • Antivirus scanning of the file
  • Forced Microsoft Windows shutdown before the Outlook.exe process shuts down completely
  • Outlook add-ins
If you see this issue frequently, and you have to exit Outlook shortly before you shut down your computer, it may be better to shut down Windows while Outlook is still running. We recommend that you do this instead of exiting Outlook and then shutting down Windows shortly after that.

Office word 2007 installed on vista shuts down when I try to open a file

It could just be a bad install. Try doing a repair via windows 'add/remove hardware' and or a complete uninstall then reinstalling. Would be worth running a registry cleaner and defrag drive before reinstalling. Another thing to try if you haven't already done it is to close down all other programs first, just in case it's a memory issue. Good luck
