There is no sleep mode on the Zebra G series.

You have to go to printer drivers on your Operative system, then open printer properties, general tab, you will be able to check the horizontal/vertical setting of the label there.

There is a commercial driver for Zebra printers on Mac OSX, works perfectly with the GK420d printer even from courier Websites and Ebay shipping. You do have to pay for it but it works.

You can ask a printer Maintenance Technician to solve the problem for you.

You can enter the internal web page and set the printer from there. Or from the printer driver, you can set the darkness and speed there.
Or in your label printer software.

Download the Seagull scientific GK420 ZPL driver. Version 7.16.

Open the driver file, (Double click on printer icon in printer & faxes folder)

Click Printer, properties, tools, action, reset printer.

Play around with the Seagull driver, it is very useful, you can format memory, read files stored in printer memory, see forms, fonts, images etc.

The forms stored in the G series printers are not cleared by the normal methods which one would use on it's predecessor the 2844 models. The G series will maintain the forms stored in its memory even if you download new firmware, or reset it. This is actually a good thing, as it prevents you from accidentally erasing forms stored in the printer.

Hopefully you can read this. I downloaded entire manual from Zebra. This section is the feed button options to reset communications, calibrate, print configuration & also to do a factory reset. You will need to try the FACTORY reset. Basically while the printer is on you press & hold the feed button till it blinks 4 times in a row then release. It will blink 1 time then pause then it will blink 1-11 & pause then 1-11-111 then pause then finally 1-11-111-1111 then release. Each 1 represents a blink. I would attach the doc but system is too busy to allow right now.
