Question about Mitsubishi WS48511 48" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

When powering on the tv, it sounds like it starts the process (green led turns on, can hear relay switching), then it just turns back off again.

Hi, I found a potential solution for my tv on this site. I'm looking for assistance with the troubleshooting. The blog I found: ... points to a potential problem with the horizontal output transistor. I need help in identifying that transistor and knowing how to test it. My TV is a Mitsubishi WS48511. I can't get anyone in Canada to work on it as Mitsubishi no longer sells/supports TV's in canada. The local folks don't want to work on Mitsubishi's either. Please help! Please describe how I can identify that transistor and how I should go about testing it. Thanks in advance, Claude

I had the same problem, try running the TV on Mute, if it is a bad solder joint the sound can vibrate the solder point and trip the relay, if the TV doesn't trip off with the sound on mute then it is probably the big power transformer's solder connection needs resoldered. sound vibration from those big pioneer speakers may loosen the solder joint over a period of time because the transformer is heavier and bulky and vibrates a lot.

Samsung HLN467W Flashing "LAMP" LED

remove the lamp and visually check if inside looks broken.if visually do not see any thing wrong, check if you have 300 volts dc supply on the ballast which starts the lamp.if you do then the ballast may be defective.if you do not then the power supply should be checked.
the lamp should always be tried first especially if is older than two years.
note - be aware about the switch at the door lamp.the door should be closed, otherwise tv will not work.if you remove the back cover, make sure to bypass the switch temporarely so you could work on the set.

No picture or sound

Remove the rear panel. With the TV on you should see a red LED near the center of the PCB. There should also be 5 green leds, 3 to the left a 2 behind. If there is no red leds, check the fuses. If there are no green leds or maybe 1 or 2, disconect PSD5. It's a connector on the left side of the power board that connects to the audio board. It's the 3rd on fro the back. It's labled. With that disconected, turn on the set and look for the green leds. If all 5 light, the power supply is OK and you have a problem beyond that. If they don't all light you have a bad power supply.

Power LED blinks red

it is a bad fan. it also could be a power supply. Quite often the real problem is dirt clogging up the fan(s) to the point that they need to be replaced. Operation of the set in a dirty environment is not a good idea
