I have been having this same exaxct problem with my tv for a few weeks now (figures I just had Verizon Fios installed with HD). I takes longer and longer each time to get the tv to turn on. As soon as we turn it off the same problem everytime. Must be a defect on the manufacturers end. Class action? Count me in too!!!!!!!!!! The unit costs too much just to trash it!!!!!!!! They should provide home service free to fix them since it seems a lot of people are having the same problem.

  • dleewo Nov 09, 2008

I just started to experience the same problem a few days ago. I did some searching and I saw a post where someonme suggested replacing 2 relays on the power board. I have opened up the TV and got the part numbers. I just ordered 2 relays (about $2.50 each) and I'll try replacing them when the parts arrive, but I would welcome any other suggestions.

does not make any sense to fix this tv because once you pay 450 for the power board the tv itself ends up burning uo and the goes black.

  • kris bhola Feb 24, 2009

same problem here with my SVA 42" Plasma. I took the board out already and wanted to replace the 2 relays, 4 capacitors and power supply chip semiconductor but i didn't because I read somewhere that once you do that the tv screen itself burns out shortly after that and turns black. so i do not know if the fix is worth it at all.

  • kris bhola Mar 01, 2009

Well this is a huge problem with these TVs. I had the same problem and I kept checking on here until I finally saw some who had gone to a website and found a power board for $139 instead of $350 - $450 on this website www.adc-ast.com. It will be here in a few days and I iwll be sure to let folks know how it works out. If you are interested and you go to the site, once there, just put in the board part number in the search box and it will go right to it. The board part number is LJ44-00025A this is for the 42" the other one there is for the 50" model. I figure I would try this first before buying a new TV. if I get another couple of years out of it then $139 will not be such a big waste of money after all compare to what SVA or Samsung sites wants for it, $450. they are simply nuts. Just the fact that they know that the boards are bad, they should be at minimum selling them at a huge discount if they are not going to do anything else to help folks. Anyway, I will let you guys know how this works out for me. I hope it does the trick. Keep your fingers cross for me. By the way this price includes shipping as well. Well you pay $139 for the board and shipping is free.

    Thanks,

    Triniboy

Read my post on getting a new board for $139.

Posted on Mar 01, 2009

  • kris bhola Mar 01, 2009

By the way, the board is made by Gateway so forget about looking fo a Samsung board. Gateway makes the replacement board for all the other companies that use them in their tvs.

  • kris bhola Mar 03, 2009

Ok folks, I got the new power board today from www.adc-ast.com and I installed it and the tv is back up and running like it did before. It is working fine and I did not cough up the $450 that they wanted at the sva parts site. All I paid was $139 from the site above. If anyone has any questions, please feel free to contact me at bhola_krishna@yahoo.com. I will be more than happy to answer any question that I can. Good luck to everyone on their fix.

One more thing. When you take apart the tv and put it back together again make sure you lay it flat on the screen on a level surface on a blanket or something to protect the glass covering. this was a simple straight forward fix. Just lots of screws. about 16 perimeter csrews and 14 bracket screw on the outside. Once back cover is off you must remove the 4 large frame screws and the 4 smaller screws at the bottom of the bracket on each side. Once the bracket is gone ther are about 12 small screws that hold the board in place. Be carefull taking these out make sure you hold onto the board as it will fall once you remove the last one. There are about 7 ribbon connections that must be removed. I used a marker and wrote on the housing and the ribbon numbering each connection so that the reconnection was clear without mistakes. I did this because there are extra open connectors and you do not want to reconnect to the wrong one. Once you start to reassemble, if your screw holes for the brackets do not match up with the inside frame holes you can stick a screw driver in the hole to move the bracket around on the inside. Fairly simple. I also pulugged my tv up once I had the new board in with a coupke of crews in place to test it before reassembling the whole tv. Make sure you turn on the power button on the bottom becuase I forgot and almost had a heart attack when I hit the remote and nothing happened. then turn on the tv with the remote pointing it to the area from the back where you know the red sensor light is. It will work from the back. Then just tilt the tv up and see if you get the video screen with the little box in the middle like you used to before. Once you see that then you are back in business. Reassemble the rest and you are back in action. hope this was helpful to you all. Thanks to the person who found the website with the boards for $139. You are a life saver. Remember once you go to the site just put in the board model number and it will come up. Make sure you choose the 42" board if you have a 42". There is also a 50" there too if you have a 50" Well good luck again.

Hello to all you frustrated TV owners, like myself. I am hearing all the complaints about Samsung part# LJ44-00025, which sounds like it is a defective board. This part can range from $140.00 to $500, depending on where you purchase it from. There are some places that charge different depending on the brand, when the parts are completely indentical. Therefore, I am taking ownership, or willing to support someone, who has already started a claim against Samsung, and including the companies, who placed this part in there TV's.

Please submit you name and contact info to samsung.lj4400025a@yahoo.com

Name
Address

E-mail

I will send out a Questionaire Form to include you in the claim. I must have the information to validate our claim.

Before we pulled the power board out of the unit, I took pictures with a digital camera so that we knew exactly how everything was connected to the board. We also marked the cables and sockets. The board got to us very quickly from www.adc-ast.com and at $139 you can't go wrong trying it out. It worked for us and a couple of others on this forum so if you held on to the tv this long, go for it and have an extra set. Good luck and thanks to the person who originally put up this web link.

Initially, I thought that my problem was exclusive, but after reading about the various problems that other consumers have encountered, I asked myself, why is the American consumers been subjected to this level of abuse? These foreign companies dump their inferior products in our markets. We purchase them and within a very short period, we are stuck with a hundred pound of trash right in our living room - with no recourse. I too have tried to reach SVA and I am still awaiting a reply. I am also stuck with a 4208 TIII-PDP(Trojan horse)that does not come on. the light double clicks but that's the extent. In a case like this I believe that the consumer's problems need to be address and there should be some kind of recall rocedure. If the manufacture cannot address our valid issue then they shoud not get our business.

I fixed Mine ($30 pdp on ebay lol) 4 $8 bucks it turned out to be a bad smd diode(1Amp) and a shorted scr (I replaced with nte5406) by the red error led I'd suggest to look 4 shorted diodes not ones by transformers but the more isolated circuits. also a few bad samwha caps that read high voltage potential (hypot) between gnd and the body of the capacitor (although not uncommon but I replaced them it Just in case) shock hazard. IMO its is a poorly designed power supply that needs some retrace jumpers to correct some of the flaws and even afterwords still some bias noise in picture but its expected in such an old tv.

Wimpete,

Is this powerboard Samsung PDP-PS-421S(v1.5) really supported by Samsung, then where can we source the board, or can we call samsung and see if they can give us some info.
I also feel that SVA should do something about it and also think Samsung should own up to the board and us help so we can repair the board our selfs.

Seriously, I have a 42-inch plasma sitting in storage because it's useless now. We are all having the exact same problem, and we're just the people who came to this site. I bet if we advertised something online, we'd find a hell of a lot more people who have this problem. Is anyone here a lawyer? Does anyone want to take on the task of finding out how to file a suit? If I didn't have 3 jobs, I'd already be starting. If enough time passes that I get fed up enough to start a lawsuit, I'll post.

I had no idea the board itself was Samsung. Did you open the TV to find this out? Samsung is a much bigger name and could stand to lose a little more if it were to get out that these TVs have this defect and no one is doing anything about it. A very close friend of mine works for a Fox news station. If there is definite information that Samsung built these boards that are crapping out, I think we should be calling them about this too. And if they don't want to listen, then we call our local consumer affairs departments and television news stations. We seriously need to get the ball rolling here, but we have to get everyone involved. The more of us reporting this stuff to SVA, Samsung, Consumer Affairs, The Better Business Bureau and our local news stations, the more support we might get. Is it worth it if going online and/or making a quick couple of phone calls gets your TV working and/or replaced? I think it is. But one person calling isn't going to do the trick. We need to all get together on this. And if someone coming here designs websites, maybe you can build a site that includes the exact make and model number requesting others with the same problem to add their info to some sort of mailing list so we can see how many people are really experiencing this and just haven't come to this particular site. The bigger our numbers, the more people will have to listen.

It worked. I got that part and replaced it in my television. It works again. Thanks to the person who originally found this part and provided instructions on how to fix this TV. I have been waiting 2 years to get my TV working again! It cost me 150 bucks and only because I opted for 2-day shipping. It's 130-something with the free shipping.

    Thank you, thank you!

He stated if the TV is use too often the power supply goes out and will need to be replace (part only is $450.00). I purchase mine July of 2005 not saying much for the SVA products to only last around 2 years.

The Sky+ remote should automatically default to Sony TV's. Leave the batteries out for a few minutes and try again. The Code for Sony is 0000.
Or try this :-

With TV and sky box on.
Press the 'TV' button on the remote.
Hold down the 'select' and the 'red' button (of the four coloured buttons) together, until the red light on the remote blinks twice. (takes 2 seconds)
Press the 'TV' button again.
Now enter four zeros, the red light on the remote should blink twice.
Press the 'standby' button (top right).
If the TV turns off, then press 'select' and the light should blink twice again, job done.

If the TV does not turn off then press 'TV' followed by 'standby' again.
Alternate pressing 'TV' 'Standby' until the TV turns off.
When it does, finish by pressing 'Select.
Check the red light on the remote, if it blinks 3 times, then it has run out of options for 0000.

GE 31GT740 clicks off and on

Dead, led flashing red/green at first, then going to red standby
Replace C604 (1000uF, 16v) elec. cap. It is in the decoupling circuit for the 5 volt supply
Reverts to standby from switch on via TV or Video
No 5v rail because FET MTP3055 o/c. (BUZ71 will do nicely)
Goes straight to standby, after a quick burst of power
Replaced R952 (39K), had gone slightly high
