Cant leave laptop cause screen wont come back on

It would seem that for some reason, the display would not activate again after going to standby. This would involve checking the inverter circuitry that powers the CCF lamps (backlight).

A possible temporary workaround is to disable/deactivate the "Turn off monitor" feature in your laptop's Power Scheme.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

15.4-inch macbook pro A1286 turn on but wont start

  1. Verify startup process passes initial memory checks and POST (Power On Self-Test) with no beeping sounds or flashing sleep LED. Check video activity.
  2. Disconnect any peripherals and Ethernet cable.
  3. Reset SMC using the procedure for your computer.
  4. Reset PRAM by holding down Command-Option-P-R keys while restarting, until you hear the startup sound for the second time.
  5. Start up from known-good original system media or an up-to-date, bootable Mac OS X volume.
  6. Run Disk Utility or check Mac Resource Inspector (MRI) results to verify SMART status of the your hard drive.

Had bluescreen a number of time, but laptop always booted up again. However i now have a black screen and nothing will boot up,even tried the dell recovery disc, but nothing. Any ideas? Thanks

Dell includes a series of tests for a system's hardware into the BIOS called the PSA+ Diagnostics. You can run these tests even if the system lacks any media (hard drive, CD drive, etc.). To launch the PSA+ Diagnostics on this system, perform one of the following actions:
  • Hold down the key while pressing the power button.
  • Turn on the system, press at the initial Dell™ logo screen, and select Diagnostics from the boot menu.
  • Disconnect the AC power and remove the battery. While holding down the power button, insert the AC connector into the back of the system. The system then starts and the message Diagnostic boot selected displays. The system then launches the PSA+ Diagnostics.
  • If all tests pass you will need to re-install the operating system software.

My laptop turns on normal goes to window and then shuts down

The is something wrong with the booting of the computer. Does it pass the initial BIOS boot screen? Try pressing F8 once every second after pressing the power button and see if you can boot the computer in safe mode.

A friend of mine gave me his laptop to see what was wrong with it... It powers up but the screen stays blank and the cd/dvd drive light comes on and stays on. The drive wont open. And the fan wont turn on....

Hi, sounds like his friend has put the wrong memory chip in this machine. I would put the old memory chip back in, and then check with the Toshiba website for the correct upgrade.
