Shift key working as two keys?

Hello, I have just purchased a Manhattan Deluxe Multimedia Keyboard(Model# 171595). I am currently having 2 issues with this keyboard.
The left shift button is acting as two buttons:
-If I hold down the left side of the shift button it works fine.
-If I hold down the right side of the shift button it acts as if I am hitting "SHIFT+\" and giving me a continuous line of |||| symbols.

The second issue is that if I hold down the "Q" key and while holding it I hit the "1" key, the "1" key does not work. The same applies for the "W and 2", "E and 3"(thats all I tested)
Lastly I am unable to find the drivers for this model and windows just has the standard keyboard installed in device manager. I am using windows Vista and the CD that came with the keyboard installed a data encryption 2.0 software and after searched provided no results for drivers.

SOURCE: keyboard problems

Keyboard is shot. They do that due to the heat laptops generate. I've probably replaced 200 laptop keyboards in the past 5 years. You can buy one on ebay for about $21.00. http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-HP-COMPAQ-Presario-2100-2500-Keyboard-317443-001_W0QQitemZ190124162270QQihZ009QQcategoryZ116289QQcmdZViewItem Ray

SOURCE: Gateway keyboard shift key creating special characters when used

|I have been having the same issue with this keyboard since it was fresh out of the box. Unfortunatly, I replaced it right away with an ergonomic keyboard & didn't think about replacing it. Now that the ergonomic one is busted, I'm stuck with the factory one again with the same problem. I contacted Customer Support & they told me that it was a faulty keyboard & should be replaced. So, basically, there isn't anything you can do but go out & get a new one. If you are still within the one year warrenty, Gateway will replace it for free, so you'd better test out those keyboards right away & replace them immediately if need be!

SOURCE: Shift Keys not working properly on ACER notebook

The 8042 keyboard controller has been integrated into one chip with other I/O functions so I doubt you can replace it as a single IC and I'm afraid that is what has failed. It is an extremely rare failure but I guess it has to happen some time. The keyboard is kind of a polled matrix so it only takes the failure of a single line to bollix things up.
I think what you are talking about here is a motherboard exchange or repair.

Shift key not working

You have 2 Shift keys on the keyboard. If the other shift key is working then the shift key that is not working is defective. You should consider replacing the keyboard on your laptop. There is no setting on Windows that can disable the shift key.

**Note : If both Shift keys are not working, Try to check if sticky keys feature on windows is on. Sticky keys should be disabled. To disable sticky keys, Click on start and Go into control panel > Accessibility Options, and under keyboard there is sticky keys. Remove the tick and click apply and OK.

**If "Use Sticky Keys" is unchecked, that means sticky keys is disabled.

How to type the @ key - it is on a key with " and 2 - when I hold down shift key either the " or 2 print but not the @.

Did you tell the operating system to have the keyboard be another language other than english?

Remember its nice to change the language if you need you "ninas" or dashes, but if you need that @ sign you need to change the keyboard language back to english.
