Question about Refrigerators
I am in the philippines and 2 different mecanic could not identify the problem. When the unit is disconnected for 12 H.or more and plugged on again the ref start working good for 2 to 5 days and then the ref stops again. This happened several times .same ice was find between the coils and when dissolved the ref was working again. A mechanic changed the thermostat ,but it did not solved the problem. I am a senior citizen and in this very hot wheather the ref is vital for me and also to keep my medication cool . Please help and advice. Thank you .
Dani, your defrost system is not working. Call the mechanic back and tell him to go through the defrost cycle. Since you have this listed as a generic problem, I can only tell you what to look for. You are going to have a defrost timer, either adaptive or mechanical. A bi-metal and a heater. He needs to put the refer into defrost and go from there. Tell him to ohm out the heating element on the evaporator to see if it is good. If that's good, then he needs to see if it is getting voltage while in defrost. If it's not getting voltage, its either the bi-metal or the defrost timer. Simple process of elimination. If the bi-metal checks out, then it's the defrost timer. If he charged you for changing out the thermostat, tell him to apply the wrong diagnosis to the right solution. Tenbears. If its a GE, let us know because you have a whole differnt ballgame there.
