Auto focus fault with 70-300 sigma

Hi i have a problem with my sigma 70-300 macro lens. I have only started to reuse my cannon eos 300 again. The problem is that when in AF the motor and lens move slightly some times in and out while other times when i press the button fully there could be up to a six or seven second delay before the shot is taken, also when depressing the button to focus the settings in the view finder start changing. I have checked the contacts on the lens and the pins on the camra i also have moved the switch back and forward between af and mannual to no avail. I have put the camras own 28-90 and every thing work perfect. I now the fault is in the lens but is there anything i can do.

I am thinking about getting a Nikon D3000 or D3100. Will my Sigma DL Macro Super 70-300 and Sigma 28-80 D work with these cameras.

If those lenses have a Nikon mount then they will fit on the D3000 and D3100. However, the D3000 and D3100 lack a focus motor. If the lens does not have the focus motor then you will not have the autofocus capability. Sigma calls their focus motor the HSM; if the lens does not specify HSM then they do not have the motor.

Will a Sigma DL Macro Super 70-300mm 1:4-5.6 Lens fit my Nikon D80?

All after market lenses are specifically designed for a brand of camera. They are for Nikon, Cannon, Minolta etc.. They can not be cross branded just as you could not use a Nikon made lens on a Pentax.

Sigma 70-300mm lens defaults to manual focus

It will default to manual through the viewing screen. It will only work on automatic, using the viewfinder. Make sure you also set the focal length (lens to shutter distance). You might also have a mf / af switch on the lens. This also only works through the viewfinder.
