When you uncase your pc that loose the case of your pc and remove the memmory card from the memmory bounk then look at the memmory if your memmory card has two cut then you will buy memmory card that has two cut we called memmory with two cut SD ram but if it has one cut that means you will buy one cut memmory we called that DD Ram then you can attach the new one after buying it.

Hey there, this was taken directly from the spec sheets of your computer.

333- and 400-MHz DDR SDRAM
NOTE: DDR 333 and DDR 400 memory runs at 266 MHz when configured with Celeron 400 MHz FSB processors
NOTE: DDR 333 memory runs at 320MHz when configured with Pentium 4 800 MHz FSB processors

What you're looking most at is the 333 and 400mhz DDR SDRAM. When you go to buy some new ram, you will want these written down.

To be safe instead of sorry, you can always open your cover, and check out the ram (if you know what to look for.) There's a good chance that the case for your computer isn't the same as the ones you see on the net, but the board inside should be the same, which means the ram should be the same as well.

So, write down the type of ram (333 or 400mhz DDR SDRAM((either or should be ok))) and head to your nearest retailer to pick some up.

Keep in mind however that your computer can handle a max of 1GB per slot and only has two slots. This means your computer can handle a max of 2GB of ram, but each stick can only be up to 1GB and at lowest, 128MB.

Ram is pretty cheap right now, I'd recommend getting two 1GB sticks and putting those in there for the most noticeable results.

I hope that helps.

Caid.

This PC should have 256 MB DDR SDRAM speed 333MHz type PC3200 so any DDR SDRAM will do, go to ebay and look at the DDR ram and compare, also see http://reviews.cnet.com/desktops/dell-dimension-3000-celeron/4507-3118_7-31077378.html?tag=mncol;psum

Would this particular RAM work with my Dell Dimension 2400? http://cgi.ebay.com/KINGSTON-1GB-DDR-PC2700-ECC-REG-KVR333X72RC25-1G-RAM-/380226148054?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item58873e96d6

Hi,

According to the Dell specification found here:
http://support.euro.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim2400/en/sm_en/specs.htm#1105481

your PC does not support registered ECC RAM.

Most desktop PCs use unbuffered RAM. Registered ECC (Error Checking and Correcting) is a special type of RAM mostly used in servers.

Unbuffered RAM is faster than ECC RAM and is usually cheaper.

To find RAM that is compatible with your PC try the memory configuration tool at www.crucial.com

Please rate my answer is this was helpful.

Many thanks,

Chris

My system says, (RAM) radon access memory low cpu intel (r) pentium 4 cpu, version 2.80 ghz. RAM 256 mb. What can I do to resolve this problem. Dell 4700 dimension

Windows XP requires a "bare-minimum" of 128MB of RAM, works "OK" with your 256MB of RAM, if you don't open too many programs at the same time, and if you close/re-open Internet Explorer about once an hour of usage.

But, Windows XP would be _much_ "happier" if you added 256MB or 512MB of RAM, because it is telling you ("available random access memory is low") that it is using all the RAM.

Add more RAM -- your computer will run much better.

The power LED light is orange instead of green and it won't turn on

Hi! for most dell machines if the power led is orange its an indication of a issue with the ram, try to reseat the ram first.if that doesnt work normally for dimension 4600, there are diagnostic lights that are located at the back panel of the machine, they are four bicolor lights(amber and green) You can determine the exact problem by checking these lights and you can interpret them by going to this website: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim4600/en/4600i/sm/adtshoot.htm#1112886 hope this helps...

I want to add more ram. Where do I get it? Dell

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, so don't 'Shoot the Messenger'!

The Dell Dimension 8200 Desktop PC uses RDRAM ram memory.
VERY expensive stuff!

Supporting Data:
This is Dell Support, Manuals, and the Dimension 8200 Service Manual,

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim8200/

Scroll down the list to the heading - Specifications, and left-click on it.

Scroll the page down until you come to the heading - Memory
Now look at the first subheading - Architecture
RDRAM

You have 4 ram memory slots. (memory connectors)

EACH, ram memory slot can support up to a Maximum amount, of 512MB. (512 MegaBytes)

TOTAL Maximum Amount for your computer is 2GB. (Not shouting)

1024MB = 1GB. (1024 MegaBytes = 1 GigaByte)

The type of Rdram ram memory is PC800, and it is Non-ECC.

(Error Correcting Control, or also stated as Error Correcting Code.
Used mostly for Server computers. Your computer does not use ECC ram memory)

In My Humble Opinion, (And again, don't shoot the messenger), it would be better money spent to buy a decent affordable computer, than it would be to upgrade the ram memory in this computer.

This statement is based upon the fact that the Dell Dimension 8200 ships with 128MB's of ram memory.
(Makes it a pretty slow computer. Rdram or not)

The average cost to install, for example, 1GB of ram memory is OUTLANDISH! (Not shouting)

Example 1:

http://www.4allmemory.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=search.memorySearch&model_id=24927

Example 2:

http://www.pcmemorystore.com/Dell-Dimension-8200-ram.htm

For about another $100 you can buy a pretty decent new desktop computer, that will run the one you have in circles.

Just my thoughts.

I have a dimension 4100, and only have 512 in ram because it only has 2 slots, is there any way to use a bigger stick to increase ram?

Yes, if only one slot is being used you can install another 512 MB of ram which will give you 1024 MB or 1GB. If both slots have 256 MB in each one then you will need to just buy a 1GB strip of Ram. Go to the link I am posting and let them scan your computer. They will tell you exactly what you can install and the price. This is a site I use all the time and it is reputable and safe with good prices. This will require a download of the scanning tool which is safe. Allow the download. http://www.crucial.com/

Want to buy more RAM..

Your dell dimension takes DDR ram. These are the specs:

Supported pin types: 184 pin DIMM (regular desktop DDR ram)
Supported memory types: DDR PC2700 or DDR PC3200
Supported speeds: 333mhz or 400mhz
Supported stick sizes: 128mb, 256mb, 512mb or 1gb.
MAXIMUM MEMORY ALLOWED: 2gb (2 x 1gb sticks)

If you buy two of these you will max out for ram and give you the best performance::

Upgrading RAM in a Dell Dimension Dim 3000

It could be one of two things:
1) Bad Ram chip (different brands), mostly DoA when buying with fleabay.
2) the U on the chip means 'unbuffered'.
3) check the following responses from other forums (specially #5):

Hope That Helps!
