ACER 5720 (XP sp3) not shutting down

I have an Acer 5720 which was Vista pre-installed. I facing lots of difficulties with it & finally crashed. We formatted the C drive & installed XP SP2 in it. I upgraded the same to SP3 recently. Even after updating Windows, my notebook never shutsdown after SAVING SETTINGs is completed. Then there will be blank screen & never shuts down for ages.

Please help me in resolving this .. Should I chnage the entire drivers ?? I downloaded them from the Acer website.

Hello Satishrk.

There are several potential causes of this. However, based on your description, it's most likely user hive registry hang. It's a fairly common problem. It occurs when certain application(s) won't readily let go of the user's portion of the Windows registry. If this is the case, you will see entries in your Windows (Application) Event Log [Start > Run… > type "eventvwr.msc" (without quotes), then "OK"]. Its entries will have a "Source" of "Userenv", and an "Event" ID of "1517" and/or "1524".

THE FIX:

Fortunately, there’s a very easy fix. It’s a handy little tool called "User Profile Hive Cleanup Service", and is published by Microsoft. Once installed, it will monitor for all such events and safely release the registry logjam. It's a tool EVERY (repeat EVERY) Windows_NT operating system (i.e., 2000/XP/2003) should have installed.

Want to install xp on pre-loaded vista acer aspire 5720

That should not be a problem. Just ensure you have the XP drivers (not saved on puter) ensure bios is set to boot from cd format drive and install.

Want to install windows xp on a pre-installed vista

boot the computer with the xp cd in it. while it is booting up, press F11 or F12 which allows you to choose the boot option. Once you're able to choose that, choose CD-ROM, that will enable you to boot from the CD and you need to do a clean format.

Tried to update drivers for acer arcde deluxe, system crashed and now the arcade won't start at all. Unable to update again.

Do a windows system restore to a day before you installed the new software, and if this fixes it, leave the acer arcade alone. If you must upgrade acer arcade, check the acer website and be sure you get the correct version for your version of windows: ie xp/vista and 32bit/64bit.

you can check your windows version this way: right-click 'my computer' in xp 'computer' in vista and left click properties. this will tell you your windows version, and whether it is 32 or 64 bit. If this fails again, do another system restore, and contact acer for support. My best advice is to leave it alone if you get the pc functioning properly though. please contact me if you need any further help.

Download the drivers from the Acer WEB site Make sure you select the model of your laptop and the XP or Vista version of the drivers that match the Windows version that is installed on your laptop. Use this link to get to the Acer support :-

Computer crashes.

Have you blown out the cooling vents and fan? Do this first. That will take care of the hardware end. Now, what OS are you running. If it is XP, left click in the tool bar and pull up your taks manager. You can see what is hogging your cpu if that is the problem and fix accordingly. Hope this helps.

Hi,
I just got my 5720-4126 so once I had to test the Factory re-install (ALT-F10 at the ACER screen) and knew I could get back to where I started (Vista), tried to install XP from CD. It couldn't even see the disk drive :-(

Need a good laptop

After doing some searching this is the closest one I can find. It comes pre-installed with Vista, but includes a down-grade CD to XP Pro. Its the Travel Mate 5720-6337. I can get this unit for $1399 plus shipping. If you would like the Media Center version of XP, it would be an additional $120, and if you would like for me to pre-install it for you, it would be $250 instead of $120. If you are interested, feel free to contact me and we will make arrangements.

ACER Aspire 5720

Hi All,

We are a workshop in Spain & I have had several problems with "Down grading" to XP. There is essentially one problem which causes an issue with the XP installation & that is if the the BIOS has a "Fixed" sata configuration. By that I mean you cannot change it to some sort of IDE or P-ATA (Symantics). Our current problems are with an Acer 5720 & an HP Pavilion DV9700. The Acer solution is exactly as "kraken3000" had mentioned before:
1. On POST (Powerup). enter BIOS by pressing F2
2. Tab along to the second option "Main"
3. Goto last option "SATA mode" & press enter.
4. From the small selection display select "IDE mode"
5. Save & exit the BIOS. This will then set the SATA mode for XP to be recognise.

DONOT set this back to SATA Mode after you install the XP as it will NOT boot. This setting must be kept untill you "Upgrade" (If ever) to Vista. The HP is another story...

Visit the Acer Panam site & download & install the XP drivers & your good to go...

I hope that this was of help...& good luck folks
