Question about Coleman Powermate Premium Plus 6250W Portable Generator
A friend of mine has an 8 HP Briggs engine on his generator. This is a used machine and he has only had it a few weeks. It ran fine for the first 3 hours until it ran out of fuel. He refilled the tank (mounted above the engine) but the engine will not start. Fuel runs out of the filter, so apparently that isn't plugged, we removed the float bowl & fuel is entering the bowl. I lifted the float and the needle valve shuts the fuel flow off. We've replaced the fuel lines and the fuel pump, and today he installed a new carb kit. (We've even tried bypassing the fuel pump by hooking the fuel line directly to the carb inlet.
We've removed the spark plug and spun the engine over. The is a nice blue arc. If we drip a little gas into the spark plug hole then replace the plug & wire, the engine will start , then immediately die.
We also tried disconnecting the low oil shut down switch in case it was grounding out..but still no luck.
Anyone have any suggestions?
Hi First check compression.Turn the switch on OFF position.Remove the sparkplug.Put your thumb at the sparkplug hole and opperate the starter. If the compression preassure blows your thumb off the hole the compression is adequate for the engine to run.In your situation if the generator has good compression there is a fuel delivery problem to find and fix.Check and clean the carb, fuel lines, fuel filter, gas cap tank vent(not to be clogged),check the air filter. If you need any other suggestions feel free to ask.Merry Christmas! regards savumihai71
