Question about Sony Grand WEGA KF42WE610 42" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

2 Answers

I have a Sony Grand Vega KF-42WE610, and there is half moon of blue dots in the middle bottom section of my screen on every input. The unit is 4-5 years old and the buld was replaced about 2 years ago. The picture seems fine, and I am not sure why the blue is all of a sudden showing up on the screen? Can you give me some advice as what to do, to get rid of it?

I have the same TV with the same problem. I called Sony and was told that the extended warranty for this problem on the 2003 models expired 6-30-08. The warrentky for the 2004 models, those ending in 620 expires 12-31-08. If you have the 04 model with this problem, act fast and call Sony directly. It looks like I am out of luck and the repair will be over $1500 with parts and labor.

I have the same problem with my set and also found out that Sony knew about the problem but never notified the set owners, at least they never notified me. I even called tech support and questioned them if possibly I had a bad lamp. They never mentioned the problem the set had, and just told me that they didn't think it was the lamp, and that I should contact a local repair person. The local guy was familiar with the problem and that was how I found out about it. I called Sony back and spoke to their complaint department and asked them why they didn't notify the set owners about the problem. They used the excuse that it was posted on their website so I told the person that I would have no reason to visit their website unless I was looking for information to buy something, which I hadn't. I also asked them how an owner would find out about the problem if they didn't have internet access, He had no answer to that question.

I am presently filing a complaint with our state consumer protection agency. Personally I think it's a little shady on Sony's part.

Yes, it is expensive unless it is one of the ones on Sony's extended warranty list, you need a light engine. Call Sony and see if it is on their extended warranty list.

The Optical Engine is causing the problem. There is a large cost involved so I would call Sont at 1800-222-SONY to see if they can help with the cost.
Hope this Helps,

KF-42WE610 blue dots and blue vertical haize

Go to the Sony Web support site. If your TV is one of the models listed with the blue dot problem (there are pictures of what the screen looks like with this problem)on the site, Sony is now saying that they will cover the cost of the part and the repair. We did what I'm suggesting and are having our part put in today. Sony decided this was their responsibility for some models of their LCD big screen HD TVs in June of this year. We were contemplating an estimated repair bill of over $1000 until we found out they were taking responsibility for this problem. Good luck, I'm not a truly techy person, but hope I have pointed you in the right direction. We have been living with blue people, etc. for about a year now, feeling angry about spending so much for a TV and it going bad so quickly. Hope this spares you that. You have only so much time to take advantage of this repair offer...
