Philips cdrw / dvd won't burn/ not responding

Philips CD-RW / DVD will not burn data from my computer.
I have a computer virus, need to save 3 years of info before I can delete everything and start over.
SCB5265 TD17 is the info needed, I was told by your help files.
The cdrw continues to say that disk is not available or that one needs to be inserted.....it IS inserted!
Or when I get to a point of trying to burn it tells me that I need some sort expandable or extendable medium?
